Just out of curiosity, what is the preferred crewing option of members going forward for QR.
Second option (roaming trains) assumes guards will be allowed to give right away from passengers doors again. Also given the power to issue fines, check tickets etc. (And the relevant training of course).
Poll runs for 4 days.

I support a move to DOO. Will take time, will require a spend. But we need to DOO it.

Guards should be promoted to drivers as train frequencies across the network improves.

I completely understand that they want to keep working for QR, and that would be the right way to go about it.

I would also have a pathway open to them if they want to be a wider role with TransLink as ticket inspectors and general customer

service etc. But that would be all modes, not just trains.

I believe it is worth expanding the role of guards in order to reduce the amount of fare evasion occurring and make the role more useful in terms of customer service. Roaming guards may also make it easier to deal with the assisted access provisions on the NGRs.

Ultimately I'd like to see DOO occur, but that isn't going to happen. We won't see DOO this side of 2031 (2050 perhaps?).
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

SurfRail

Driver only.  If Melbourne can do it, we can.
Ride the G:

Gazza

Driver only with other staff on board, with whatever necessary changes are needed to the trains and platforms to allow this to be safe.

But the customer service/ticket checking wouldn't really be a 'guard' any more since they wouldn't require any safeworking knowledge.
I think these staff would need to work in pairs but they wouldn't need to be on every service anyway....

Old Northern Road

Driver only is inevitable. No good having the guards checking tickets as you would still have to pay them the same amount

I would like to see if a higher level of automation is possible on the Queensland Rail network.

I am thinking of automatic train operation. Not driverless.

Drivers would still be required, but between stations the train would drive itself.

Prerequisite would be ATP, so that trains would be forced to stop if they skipped a signal for any reason.

Drivers would be needed for stopping the train, opening the doors etc. But it would be a greatly simplified job - win for drivers and gov't.

If possible, it would cut the training requirements down massively.
