Greetings,

A lot more train service cancellations this afternoon/evening/night due to ' operational reasons ' what ever that means.

>>  https://twitter.com/TransLinkSEQ

One wonders what is actually going on hey?

Not really getting any more reliable is it despite the assurances that it would?  Less services, still unable to be delivered.

This is a turning into a real festering mess now.

Farce!

Best wishes

The minister must go. He promised no more cancellations, there are cancellations galore.

Second thing, the Commission of Inquiry needs a website where people can make personal unprompted submission.

Might be a few staff (or even people outside QR that worked under Newman Gov't) that know something but would rather send info directly via a secure website than through managers etc.

I'm not sure if I've already mentioned this, but it has been something I've observed for a while.

Somewhere on this forum, it was mentioned that train drivers can only work 11 days before taking a break. Now if you add up the days of the week (including weekends and public holidays), you find that if you start on the Monday of Week A, you finish your 11 train driver days on the Thursday of Week B, leaving people commuting on Week B Fridays high and dry.

If we look back in time, the QR RailFail first came to fruition on Friday, 14th of October - 11 days after the trial launch of the line on Monday, 3rd of October. (Not as bad as the 3rd was a public holiday/old timetable). Friday, 28th of October was even worse, because we didn't have a public holiday on Monday, 17th of October. Similarly, we've observed a total failure to run a consistent timetable on both the 11th of November and today (25th of November), but it hasn't been as bad thanks to the adjusted timetables. Assuming this pattern holds true, we should brace ourselves for another round of cancellations on the 9th of December (last day of school for P-10 State Schools).

Perhaps those in QR should pick up on the pattern and look at trying to mitigate this issue? This is just a hunch I have, that the Friday timetable is worse than Mon - Thurs already gives some credence to this theory though.
:is-
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

A suggested rail timetable fix

Good Morning,

Ongoing Queensland Rail service cancellations are only adding fuel to the fire of discontent and rage.  It is time to step up and do what should have been done when the Redcliffe Peninsula Line opened. Operate that line as a shuttle service until such time there are sufficient train crew to deliver a reliable new timetable.

Rail fail fix

Queensland Rail needs to revert to the previous rail timetable (September 2016), that is the one in operation prior to the opening of the Redcliffe Peninsula Line. This was being delivered with a high degree of reliability.

Shuttle services between Petrie and Kippa-Ring need to be layered on that, with perhaps some peak direct services.

This was the approach that was used when the Richlands line opened in January 2011 [ A copy of the Richlands interim timetable can be found here > Richlands Jan 2011 interim timetable  ]. Shuttles operated until such time the full new sector one timetable was implemented in June 2011.

Introduce shuttle services (mainly off peak) on the Redcliffe Peninsula Line between Petrie <> Kippa-Ring.  Yes this is an inconvenience but it will take the pressure off all lines, and allow all train crew to be made route ready without the present pressures and will provide a reserve for New Generation Rollingstock testing and training, and time to get new crews up to speed.  Queensland Rail staff are obviously under considerable strain due to the bungling, and it is time to stabilise the situation for them and the long suffering Queensland Rail passengers.

The present ' new timetables ' are just a smorgasbord of service cuts and non delivery.  Hardly satisfactory.  Time for the big steps and some real political leadership.

Further more it is time that the authorities came clean on the New Generation Rollingstock project.  What is going on?  When will we see the new trains in service?

Enough of the spin and bull-dust, time to come clean with the truth.  What is the disability access plan for these trains?

Can a broom be put through TransLink and TMR too please?

They had carriage of both Moreton Bay Rail Link and the New Generation Rollingstock projects, both abysmal project failures at this point. Or do they get cash bonuses too?

Enough of the mediocrity.  Time to sort it once and for all.

Expecting more cuts over the Xmas/New Year period (like last year) with peak fares of course!

ozbob

There always has been  (as far as I can remember) a modified timetable for the Christmas / New Year period.

But I think we might be lining up for more than that.  This ' summer timetable ' is code for a reduced service timetable for a while I expect.

There are no doubt issues that are proving difficult to solve with train crew rosters.

...and we'll still be charged peak fares. BrizCommuter can only recall last year as having a reduced service on working days between Xmas and New Year.  BrizCommuter's post on last years Xmas reduced service has had a few hits from government departments recently, so I'm pretty sure to know what they are planning.

(Though saying that at least the engineering works are not so bad during this years Xmas party season).

Public transport passengers are very concerned

Good Morning,

Friday today, with a different rail timetable that just adds to the general confusion and misery of the public transport community.

Of great concern is increasing reports of passengers being forced to seek alternate travel arrangements, particularly with time critical appointments and the like.

There is a steady stream of service non-delivery, particularly out of peak.  When a low frequency service is cancelled delays are magnified, with loss of connections.

An example:

On the 29th November TransLink advised that the 3.16 Rosewood to Central was cancelled.  They advised that the next train to depart Rosewood would be at 3.50pm.  In the same advice they also stated that the next Ipswich to Central will depart Ipswich station at 4.07pm.  This is an absurd inconsiderate advice, because the 3.50pm Rosewood train arrives at Ipswich at 4.11pm, after the 4.07pm train has left.  It is little wonder that passengers are giving up hope with the ongoing Queensland Rail failures.  Passengers would have to wait for the 4.37pm Ipswich starter to make a connection.

There has been talk of a new ' Summer rail timetable '.  We think this is just an euphemism for more service cuts.  Can this be clarified please?

This weekend marks the 4th weekend in a row that the battlers west of Ipswich have not had weekend rail services between Ipswich and Rosewood.  Very very disappointing.

It is terrible outcome that in the space of a couple of months Queensland Rail has become known colloquially as ' Queensland Fail '.  And it seems yet more cuts are on the way.

Best wishes

There is an a lack of public reassurance by the authorities that things are being sorted.  Whilst there is a vacuum the public will fill that space with their ongoing frustration. The longer this mess continues the worse it will be come election time.

When are weekend trains returning to Rosewood ?

Greetings,

On the 13th November the Minister for Transport Mr Hinchliffe indicated that he had instructed Queensland Rail to review the decision to stop weekend rail services on the Ipswich <> Rosewood line and restore service as a priority ( See > https://twitter.com/StirlHinchliffe/status/797667015284563970 ).

Further advice was that services might be returned on the weekend of the 10-11th December 2016 ( See > http://www.qt.com.au/news/ipswich-rosewood-line-closed-to-trains-again/3114791/ ).  That is next weekend.  Rosewood has been without trains now for four consecutive weekends.

Does anyone know if trains will return to Rosewood from this weekend?

Thanks.

Ah, is this the so-called "summer timetable"?

There have always been some tweaks for Christmas, New Year etc. But "summer timetable" suggests something that will last the whole three

months.

Still no weekend Rosewood services, a directive by the Minister apparently has no effect other than more inefectual hot air to go in a press release.

Media release

Jim Madden MP

8th December 2016

Weekend trains resume on the Rosewood line

Weekend train services will return to the Ipswich-Rosewood line from Saturday, December 10.

Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden said the return of trains followed his advocacy on behalf of the community.

"I'm pleased Queensland Rail has listened to our community's concerns to reinstate weekend train services from Ipswich to Rosewood starting from this weekend," Mr Madden said.

"It means the return of hourly services in both direction of travel just in time for local residents to finish their Christmas shopping and to catch up with family and friends for the festive season."

Mr Madden said rail replacement buses were implemented earlier in November as a temporary operational measure.

"The return of train services is recognition that we're an important region and I want to thank the community for its patience in having this matter addressed, Mr Madden said.

"I thank Minister Stirling Hinchliffe for making this happen."
