NOOSA residents can have their say on the council push to have TransLink agree to a bus turn around on Lake Weyba Dr as part of proposed changes to bus services at Noosaville.

TransLink spokesperson Miguel Holland said residents have previously expressed their concerns about the safety of route 628 buses travelling on Creek Rd.

"Noosa Council has proposed the option of constructing a bus turnaround on Lake Weyba Dr to facilitate the potential removal of route 628 from Creek Road.

"We want to ensure all customers and residents understand the full impact of removing route 628 from Creek Rd.

"These changes may also mean that school students and customers would need to walk up to an additional 400m to access their nearest alternative bus stops and cross Lake Weyba Dr or Weyba Rd," Mr Holland said.

He said even though an independent safety audit in 2013 confirmed it was sufficiently safe for buses to use Creek Rd, "there has still been some community debate on this".

"However, despite the findings of the independent audit, buses travelling along this route have continued to be the subject of much debate, so TransLink has agreed to Noosa Shire Council's request to re-visit this issue."

A bus turnaround on Lake Weyba Dr would result in the removal of school bus routes 5822, 5824, 5828, 5829 and 5840 from Swan St, Wylah St and Creek Rd and travel on Lake Weyba Drive only; closure of the Swan St bus stop and reduction in parkland parking on Lake Weyba Dr for the new bus turnaround.

TransLink is aware of safety concerns expressed by some members of the community about route 628 services travelling along Creek Road, Noosaville.

We are also aware that Noosa Shire Council has engaged with some members of the community about the proposed construction of the bus turnaround on Lake Weyba Drive and removal of route 628 from Creek Road.

To ensure we achieve the best, balanced outcome for the entire community, we would like to hear your thoughts on the proposed changes.

The removal of route 628 from Creek Road and construction of a bus turnaround on Lake Weyba Drive would also result in the:

· Removal of school bus routes 5822, 5824, 5828, 5829 and 5840 from Swan Street, Wylah Street and Creek Road

· Closure of the Swan Street bus stop (stop ID 302127)

· Reduction in parkland parking on Lake Weyba Drive.

These changes would mean customers and school students would need to walk up to an additional 400m and cross Lake Weyba Drive or Weyba Road to access their nearest alternative bus stops.
