Couriermail --> LNP spill: Lawrence Springborg faces challenge after voting blindside

LOL.  I have always felt it was inevitable but after the legislation gazump the other week it is now fairly certain IMHO.

I hope the LNP put people in portfolios that actually match their knowledge, abilities and capabilities.

Transport being a good case in question hey?   :P

Bye Lawrence!

Brisbanetimes -->  Springborg too 'boring' to lead

QuoteOpposition Leader Lawrence Springborg faces a leadership challenge within a week, LNP sources told Fairfax Media on Sunday.

Despite Mr Springborg telling media on Sunday morning such a move would cause "ire" among his colleagues, insiders say controversial changes to the state's voting laws have left no option but to challenge ...

A good candidate to replace the "Borg" and give the LNP some credibility would be Fiona Simpson but the boys club of the LNP would rather stay in opposition than have a woman as leader no matter how the public would respond.

The Blue Team is so disorganised. They were disorganised last time as well. Would they be able to open the back door of the bus?

Tim Nicholls? He is Mr Privatisation and Asset Sales, that will not work.

Fiona Simpson would be good IMHO.

It is disgusting that Blue Team has not managed to promote any female leaders yet. Why?

The same with the recent BCC election. No women anywhere!

Women are not a minority - they make up 50% of the population!

If your management team does not have a woman on it - something is very wrong with your organisation!!

Ms Simpson (ex Speaker) was also a Transport Shadow Minister along the line so to speak as well.  Always approachable and we had some good meetings and dialogue.  I think Ms Simpson would make a good Leader or Deputy for that matter. Failing that would be very happy if Ms Simpson resumed Shadow Transport responsibilities.  The present incumbent is wedded to yesterday's fare failure ..

I think Tim Mander would be a good choice. He's a former NRL referee (+ for the uninterested bogan vote) and had very little to do with the train wreck that was the 2015 election loss (and the time leading up to it). Just because someone here likes Fiona Simpson, doesn't mean she wants the role. The fact she's a woman is not the only consideration the LNP need to account for.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

A week is a long time in politics, yet alone a year.

She's a woman, she's no moderate though. She'd be Qld's version of Margaret Thatcher.

You put two points out. These have been answered now.

Tim Mander's seat is marginal. He'd be open to removal at the next election through a targeted campaign, similar to how Campbell Newman was removed. That's a big mark against his candidacy.

They all seem to be God-botherers of some persuasion, either religious (Christian) or secular (dry right economics).

They need somebody who is a sensible centrist and who intends on promulgating evidence based policy.  If not, they will remain stuck in place marking time.

Yeah, I'll take Simpson over Mander any day.

Plus, didn't Mander look to roll Springborg a little while ago?
Poor form. You don't do these things unless you're confident in the numbers going your way.

#Metro

Another plus for Fiona Simpson --- she lives on the Sunshine Coast.

She KNOWS how bad SC PT is.

Also handled the PT portfolio.

Gotta feel for the Borg, he's tried so many times to become Premier and fallen short every time, and you can see that's what he wants.  Nevertheless, I don't mind who takes the leadership, just anyone except Scott Emerson, I can't stand the man, and his time as Transport Minister and now Shadow Transport Minister has proven that time and time again with his usually uneducated rants and poor performance.

kram0

Borg is not a bad man at all, he is just not leadership material for Premier. He does not speak with confidence that one needs, not too dissimilar to Abbot.

We have to get away from this rubbish.  Leaders (whether on the Treasury benches or not) really should be given the opportunity to comprehensively lose or win before they get turfed.

This is how all of the rot has set in - it's Messiah syndrome writ large.

Couriermail --> LNP leadership: Party room meeting to decide leadership

QuoteLAWRENCE Springborg has called a party room meeting of LNP MPs on Friday and former deputy premier Jeff Seeney has confirmed he will call a spill.

Mr Seeney told The Courier-Mail he had emailed his colleagues this afternoon to advise them he would be moving a motion for the leadership positions to be declared vacant ...

Yawn. Just hopeless really.  :yikes:

Brisbanetimes has a poll - 40% are voting 'None of the Above'

Tim Nicholls? I don't know much about the guy, but I do know that he was Asset Sales / Privatisation Central.

And Tim Mander? Go into an election with a razor-thin marginal seat? My head hurts!!

It's just a free kick for the other side IMHO.

Why not have all the seats in Queensland Parliament ripped out and replaced with Banana lounges or hammocks.

More appropriate perhaps?

Sun Ripened Warm Tomato Party

The Sun-Ripened Warm Tomato Party is a joke party that stood candidates in the first Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly elections in 1989. It received 1.17 percent of the vote and its preferences went to elect Residents Rally candidates to the Assembly.
