Queensland: Continued support for public transport in budget welcomed

RAIL ? Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community organisation for the promotion of rail throughout Australia has said that the Queensland Government?s ongoing commitments to public transport deserves recognition and praise.

Robert Dow, on behalf of RAIL Back On Track said:

?Rapid population growth in Queensland has highlighted the deficiencies with public transport infrastructure throughout the state. We welcome the Queensland Government?s increased commitments for public transport in the forthcoming budget.  Rather than dwell on past neglect it is time to move forwards with a better public transport system for all.?

?Bus does provide a solution for local community transport.  Rail is the long distance bulk people mover.  The unique bus/rail interchange soon to be completed at Roma St Station will also provide new options for commuters.  There is still much to be done in terms of timetable improvement for both Citytrains and bus networks, but increases in rail rolling stock and buses will now give more options to planners.  We would also suggest that Queensland Transport look at introducing hybrid buses as a further environmentally friendly solution.?
