Light Rail gloss aside it's actually pretty sensible with its infrastructure commitments. Can't really go wrong with bus priority and LX removals.

ozbob

Transit ways -- good policy.

Grade separations -- good policy.

Fare free Fridays -- very poor policy, in any case will be trumped by fare review later this year.

Light rail - equivocal at this stage.

Kingsford Smith Drive - partial improvements -- good policy

^ bus network reform will allow for a lot more buses out in the suburbs.

With light rail, I'd rather see it along that PAH-RBWH route as a  priority, because it would actually serve a useful interchange function, allow faster cross town journeys, and would simplify the bus network by getting rid of the 'via storey bridge' routes.

Woolloongabba misspelled on page 7 :-r :-r going back to old QR days

BrizCommuter

That'll be $1.22m better spent towards on CRR and Trouts Rd Line.

Can the Story Bridge and approach road layouts even cope with light rail?

ozbob

Yo, as much as I like the notion of light rail running back in Brisbane, the business case etc. would be difficult, particularly when there is a low cost solution: Vic Bridge and Cultural station sorted and basic bus network reform!   :P

The busway network needs to be kept operational for now.

I would much prefer to see Brisbane set its sights on a proper automated metro network eventually.  This will occur years after Cross River Rail.

Real problems with the pie in sky Quirk Metro and Harding Light Rail.

What is going to be done to sort out the bus network?  Wait for the infrastructure fairy to deliver gold plated concrete or start doing essential reform that will deliver much improved outcomes for all of Brisbane right now?

How many years - 10+ for the grand plans?  lol

Sorry, I'm calling BS on the northern transit way. Just like the northern busway where a 370 all stops is faster than a 340 that stops twice between Stafford Road and Albion Road. They need to address the fundamental flaws in the network rather than slapping a $66 million dollar bandaid here. And I'm talking about everything from duplication to what buses run along Gympie Road. is there really a need for a high capacity bus to do a 336/337/338 run first thing in the morning while smaller capacity buses are doing the popular overcrowded routes?? Also the network should be dumping people are train stations/interchanges. Not filled up before chermside and then running express to the city.

Min of $87.5 million that will actually increase congestion

The recognition that buses need some priority is good. Yes, bus network reform is really the main game however there will always be a need for buses along that corridor.  There are looming capacity constraints on rail north of Brisbane as well.

I have been advised from a media producer that Rod will make an announcement on buses and funding today.  Funding for network reform?

But 66 million for a 3km stretch of road that only has a slight benefit while not addressing the fundamental problem of why cars are there in the first place. I really want to know why it costs 66 million. So what if a few intersections have to be upgraded but that won't cost 66 million.

What's so difficult about removing the existing parking, throw in a bike lane (something which I noticed has really increased in the morning peak run considering traffic is already at a crawl) and because the parking was removed make the far left hand lanes wider T3/bus lanes? Give the remaining 56 million to translink to run more buses on the inefficient brisbane network :P

Fattious

Can I suggest contacting Rod's advisers.  They can take it on board.

SurfRail

^ The available evidence would suggest otherwise!

If they are reading this forum - do yourself a favour and try and wind back the foam.

They called back but I couldn't take the call.  I spoke with them last week and the advisor for the portfolio didn't seem so be aware of RBOT. Hence call and lobby.
