There's still 3 and a half weeks to go, still plenty of time to announce a new Glider route. Perhaps waiting for the rest of the candidates to move first and see where to from there.

There is more to the Lord Mayoralty than just transport, I think it is good that Quirk is spending time on side issues - particularly given that in our view, BCC should butt out of transit all together.

Hopefully Quirk comes out with something on buses and Harding specifies where the 120 daily services will go. Hopefully the upgrades are concentrated into BUZes into places like Centenary suburbs and Bulimba, rather than giving every bus route 1-2 extra services.

Quote from: ozbob on February 22, 2016, 17:36:15 PMWorth mentioning that I was agitating for grade separations on the Dandenong line in the 1960s.  Any one with half a brain could see what was going to occur.  Some of the crossings are down for 45 minutes in the hour!  Completely stuffs everything.  Last time I was in Melbourne I waited at Clayton for around 20 minutes to get across the line onto the platform! This was mid afternoon!!

I know Grade Seps are important, but for what its worth, they're probably not as important in most locations because grade separation has already occurred on most Brisbane railway lines where it matters. The Coopers Plains LX is probably one of the last major LXs that needs upgrading. Sure, there's ones like Warrigal Rd and Beams Rd that'd be nice-to-haves, but it is not the end of the world (and then there are LXs which don't really matter like Wacol and Stones Rd, Sunnybank).

The problem in Melbourne is much, much worse.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Quirk is very unfocused. Fountains, BMX parks, Gyms in parks, an incubator hub - this is all very niche stuff. It is diffusing the potency of his campaign and message IMHO.

Transport is bread and butter. Everybody has to use the roads or PT network sometimes, and we are not talking small numbers here.

70+ million trips per year use the BT bus network alone.

The metro doesn't seem to be getting that much traction, and the KSD project won't have that much impact because AirportLink now exists.

Harding's Light Rail idea has major issues, and for now, hasn't really had those scrutinised.

And the problems in Brisbane will only get worse. Fix it now.  Wacol is a death trap.

This is an interesting insight  .. from 2012

Those are all Council functions. Recall that he and most of the councillors have been in office for at least four years. They've had plenty of time to come up with "that'd be nice" projects. Now they can spam them and drown the challengers in a wave of detail.
