QuoteAustralia's first ambulance bus, which can treat multiple patients at once, has been launched in Adelaide today.

The 12m long "Ambus" has capacity to treat 12 patients at a time while responding to major emergencies.

The South Australian government says the vehicle will allow paramedics to respond to accidents and disasters with multiple patients more effectively.

"It'll give our hardworking paramedics a critical advantage when attending major incidents resulting in multiple causalities, like bushfires and car crashes," Health Minister Jack Snelling said.

Once testing is complete, it will be used for a range of purposes in addition to emergency situations, including large events such as the annual Schoolies celebrations.

The bus is equipped with advanced technology and can treat six stretcher patients and six sitting patients.

There is room for two clinicians in the patient treatment area and another paramedic to drive.
