Very unstable situation ... IMHO

Early election?

Unlikely. We're just going to see a repeat of Gillard and Co., less the part where the Gillard government actually did things. Palaszczuk and co. will cling to power like their life depends on it. At worst Miller will just get booted out of the party and (politely) told to stay put until the next election or else.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Would Di Farmer or Kate Jones make good PT ministers? Di's electorate could do with bus upgrades.  :bo

The Transport Portfolio and Palaszczuk Cabinet Reshuffle

Greetings

Without prejudice, we think the super portfolio Deputy Premier, Minister for Transport, Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister for Trade is far too big. Super portfolios are a recipe for a super disaster - there is almost one portfolio area for each day of the week!

There are no prizes or awards for overloading ministers or their staff. In fact, this is how you get very bad decisions made. Bad decisions could cost the state far more in lost productivity than what is saved in salaries.

Super portfolios are a dangerous gimmick that should stop now. The election is over, and nobody will care if there are a few extra hands on deck.

We want Transport to be removed and looked after by a dedicated minister. This could be a public-transport only minister, or one with main roads included as well.  In addition, we recommend an assistant minister assisting the Transport Minister on bus reform.

The Queensland Government and Brisbane City Council have shirked their responsibility to reform the bus network, and as a result, fares have exploded while patronage has plunged. This cannot continue. Other cities such as Auckland in NZ have performed bus reform, so why the hold up?

We look forward to the break-up of super portfolios, and wish all ministers best of luck.

Best wishes
Robert

===============

Understand that Ms Miller was asked to resign, refused so Premier has dismissed her from the police portfolio.

Ms Miller is probably going to remain in Cabinet.  How does Transport sound troops?   :P

Statement by Premier of Queensland Annastacia Palaszczuk

This morning I advised the Parliament that it was my intention to study the Ethics Committee report in detail.

I said I would be meeting with the Minister about the findings of the report.

I said I would listen very closely to the statement that the Minister would have to make.

I said this was a very serious matter and I would be speaking to the minister about it.

I have done all of those things.

Minister Miller has complied with the recommendation of the committee and made a statement in the House in accordance with that recommendation.

I have given close consideration to all of the circumstances involved.

In light of the seriousness of the committee's findings, I have advised Minister Miller of my intention that she no longer continue in her present portfolio.

This intention will be given effect as part of the discussions I am having with all of my Ministers over the coming days.

Greetings

YES to more cabinet ministers

Cabinet is no place to cut corners or scrimp savings. Without prejudice, Jackie Trad's portfolio is far too big.

Yes this is going to cost money. But making a mistake in the transport portfolio could cost hundreds of millions, or billions. We already have key projects such as Cross River Rail, Sunshine Coast line and BCC Bus Reforms stagnating, at huge social and economic cost to the state.

More hands on deck are required. We also do not believe in burning ministers out or overloading them with work. It is totally unnecessary and dangerous for health. There are no prizes or awards for it.

The Queensland Government is already highly unstable as it is. We agree it is time to end the silly gimmick of super portfolios and put more ministers in.

We welcome Mr Stirling Hinchliffe MP to Transport.  Many thanks for the hard work done by the Deputy Premier and soon to be former Minister for Transport Ms Jackie Trad MP.

Best wishes
Robert

Media Release
Premier and Minister for the Arts
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announces new Cabinet team

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has today announced a revamped Cabinet team that will drive the Government's broad economic and social policy agenda into 2016 and beyond.

The Premier said a mixture of new energy and experience would be included in the Cabinet.

"I'm extremely proud of what my Government has achieved already in 2015, and I know 2016 is going to be even bigger and better," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"I've made a point of leading an open and consultative Government that takes Queenslanders with us when it comes to job creation policies, economic growth initiatives and the delivery of better frontline services.

"And with our broad policy agenda, business leaders and community groups have told me that an increase to the size of the Cabinet will only strengthen our efforts.

"Today I have added three new Ministers to my team, as well as replacing the former Police Minister, bringing the size of Cabinet to 17 – still smaller than every other Cabinet since 1986.

"This allows me to add another regional voice to Cabinet in Bundaberg's Leanne Donaldson, as well as experienced Parliamentarians Stirling Hinchliffe and Grace Grace, and the talented Springwood MP Mick de Brenni.

"The Cabinet includes 53% female representation, making Queensland the most progressive Government in Australia.

"It allows me to have a Minister firmly focused on Innovation and the Digital Economy, and it places a bigger emphasis on the biofuels and renewable energy sectors, all areas that are crucial to the next phase of Queensland's economic story and central to my Government's agenda.

"And we will also have Queensland's first Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence. We cannot let this issue fall by the wayside. Minister Fentiman will work with other Ministers but will have responsibility for the coordination of the Government's roll-out of our domestic violence reforms.

"I have spoken endlessly this year about my Government's desire to create the jobs of the future, to drive economic growth into the future, and to deliver a better way of life for Queenslanders into the future.

"My team has worked tirelessly to deliver a better way of Government in 2015, and this dynamic new team will build on those achievements into next year and beyond."
