Thinking of sorting out an end of year trip.

How does the Gold Coast sound for this year?

Head down on the heavy rail to the light rail (bus Helensvale).  Light rail then bus to Tweed Heads for lunch.

Saturday 28th November ( clear of track closures at this time)

Sounds fine by me.

Train to Helensvale
709 to GCUH
Tram to Broadbeach with or without stops en route
700 to Tweed
Slap up lunch at one of the eateries in Twin Towns
760 to Varsity Lakes
Train back

For those who've never been on public transport south of the border, maybe even a trip down to say Kingscliff before heading back (using paper return tickets)!

Thanks, yes I think that is good day out.

So lets go for Gold Coast/Tweed Heads/Kingscliff Saturday 28th November 2015.

I will work out the timetables later on.

Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

I reckon this will be a great day out. I have always found buses in Tweed Heads a curious case. Unfortunately I can not make it though.  :'(

Stillwater

Is trip to Kingscliff doable on PT, at a weekend?  I have not been there for years!

Otto

Bugger... I can't come. Wife and I will be in Melbourne having early Dinner on the Tramcar Restaurant for our 30th anniversary.
Speaking of Trams, there is a special night time running of the Trams at Ferny Grove on the 28th Sept in recognition of the 53rd anniversary of the Paddington Depot fire.

That weekend is Brisbane Supanova, so I'm afraid I can't come.

SurfRail

The Kingscliff routes are the 601 and 603.  The 603 is a bit more scenic with a fair bit of rural scenery (think sugar cane, market gardens etc).  The 601 is the most direct service.

It is difficult to find a day that is clear for everyone sorry.

But we will stick to the 28th November.

Train Roma St 7.32am (last car) arrive Helensvale 8.38am.

709 bus 8.42am > GCUH 9.05am.

Tram 9.19am > Broadbeach South 9.52am.

700 bus 10.06am  > Tweed Heads 10.56am

Luncheon.

Then head off on T601/T603 as desired.

I am shocked that "international" (Queensland) services are even on that map. It is slack that those buses are not part of TransLink.

SurfRail

^ Pre-TransLink, Route 11 used to go from Robina to Kingscliff, and the old Route 7 and 8 continued south of the border to Kennedy Drive and back to the bus depot.

Blame NSW for the current situation.  I have correspondence from Aunty Gladys saying that they basically had no interest in joining the integrated ticketing system.

The NSW government did send a land tax bill to the Queensland government for the Tugun Bypass after all! It must be tough living in the Tweed.

I hope that by the time the NSW government rolls Opal out to regional areas the ducks are lined up for the Tweed Shire to get Go Card instead. Rolling Opal out there would be ridiculous.

On the plus side, the good people of the Tweed do no have extortionate Translink fares.

I'm hoping I can make it, but don't have work rosters for that day in November yet (should have it next week).

Would it be okay if I joined the train at Loganlea?

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it along - the first bus into the city only gets me on to the train after (and that's assuming it doesn't run late), and I will have work that morning.

I will most likely join the train at Eagle Junction and see everyone as they join at Roma Street or whichever station they're catching it from.  :)
