Finland: Single National Public Transport Card

People said it can't be done... well now there is a precedent.

Finland is the latest country to introduce a transit pass that can be used not just in one place, but throughout many of its cities. After a single-city trial in Joensuu that started in January, the Waltti card was rolled out across six additional Finnish towns on August 3rd. The number of cities where the card is valid for use will rise to eight when Lahti joins in the autumn. Ultimately, it will go on to be used in both larger and smaller cities across the whole country.

Been the case in WA with Smartrider for some time.

It's just that there is no point now - in the time it would take to roll this out the big agencies will just move to contactless payment directly out of your bank account through your bank/credit card or phone.

I don't think anyone said it couldn't be done, it just wasn't on the radar to start with.

It would not work in Australia. The differences between the states are just too great.

Qld and NSW can integrate both cards as they both have wallet style credit and both implemented by cubic. There is nothing stopping and accepting Opal here in Qld and the Go Card in NSW. Should just take some cooperation, programming and implementation
