^^ Fast-paced music, aerial views, lots of dotted lines, and circles where transport nodes could be.  I especially like the use of the words 'concept planning' which is usually subject to 'concept modelling' which means government is 'having a bit of a think'.  Still, it's a plan!

Poor planning around public transport in Brisbane -- it's just one aspect of life in this northern town.

Higher production values in animations, drive throughs and glossy brochures please. ABC's Utopia should be the minimum standard.  After all, this is a can-do Queensland.  (Are we allowed to say that anymore?)

Planning moving forward on rail capacity solution for South East Queensland

The Palaszczuk Government is moving ahead with planning to deliver extra capacity on South-East Queensland's rail network.

Deputy Premier Jackie Trad said the Government was committed to transforming and revitalising the rail network to benefit Queenslanders and provide a more efficient public transport system that can cope with forecast demand.

"Increasing the capacity of our rail network is one of our top priorities, we are working to identify solutions," Ms Trad said.

"Our assessment will include an investigation of elements of the Cross River Rail and Bus and Train projects to identify a preferred solution to address these capacity issues.

"It will also include a detailed assessment of the feasibility of introducing New Generation Signalling to the inner city rail network.

"Improved signalling would allow for a higher frequency of services on our most constrained part of the network, unlocking additional capacity that would benefit the entire region.

"Considerable cost and time savings will be achieved during this evaluation phase by using planning prepared as part of the previous projects – that work will not be wasted."

"However, there will be no combination of buses and trains in the Cross River Rail design going forward.

"Buses and trains play different roles in our transport network and combining them in the same corridor does not make sense," Ms Trad said.

Ms Trad said the project team would deliver an updated business case of a preferred project to be considered by Government.

"The Queensland Government will include a complete business case as part of a funding submission to Infrastructure Australia and the Federal Government for this urgently needed project," she said.

"We will also seek to re-establish the ready-to-proceed status previously applied to the Cross River Rail project."

For more information contact the project team on 1800 010 875.

Can't run buses to Yeronga, or put frequent trains on the Shorncliffe line, but look, HSR!!

QuoteTravelling at up to 400km/h (250 mph) on dedicated track, Australia's A-HSV high-speed train concept could sprint between Sydney and Melbourne in under three hours.

(Ditto the fact that aircraft can travel at 2x the speed of the train, at around 900 km/hr)

QuoteDwarfing even the newly dubbed "Minister for Everything" Kate Jones, the Treasurer and Deputy Premier are attending as many as 144 meetings a month each, and up to 18 in a day constantly, switching between their unrelated portfolios.

These super-portfolios are the size of The Titanic, and we all know what happened to The Titanic! There is absolutely no way that they would be functioning properly with this insane workload, and certainly NOT the transport portfolio. It is too much!

Re super ministries ....  The Premier must be mulling her promise that there will be only 14 ministers, with several super multi-portfolio 'ministers for everything' and some strange grouping of areas of responsibility together under one minister.

One way out would be to appoint a few MPs as 'assistant to the minister' or appoint a few 'Parliamentary Secretaries'.  She could then argue that Labor keeps its promises while breaking the promise for practical reasons.

Parliamentary Secretaries are a permanent fixture in Canberra.  It is a good way of training up potential ministers and the real ministers get to pass off the sh*t work, leaving them to handle the more strategic stuff -- a bit like having an apprentice plumber so they are the one who puts their arm around the S-bend.

Meanwhile the LNP are still with their ' LNP's strong plan for public transport revolution '

Whoa ...

https://lnp.org.au/news/lnps-strong-plan-public-transport-revolution/

this is dated Jan 28, 2015 | Election 2015, News ( https://lnp.org.au/?s=transport+policy )

As switched on in opposition as in Government by the looks of things ..   :ttp:

QuoteSouth-east Queensland commuters will find it easier to park and ride at train and bus stations, dangerous level crossings will be made safer, and thousands of new construction jobs will be created under a landmark LNP public transport package announced today.

Mr Newman said the LNP had a strong plan to fund Queensland's future and deliver the services and infrastructure our growing state needs, including public transport.

"Over the past three years, we've worked hard to improve the frequency, affordability and reliability of public transport," he said.

"We've delivered more than 3000 new weekly bus and train services and there are now more trains on time than ever before. We've also made it cheaper for families to use public transport by making a state-wide fare cut for the first time in Queensland's history.

"While we're making progress, we know there is more to do and if re-elected, an LNP Government would fund a public transport revolution for south-east Queensland that will create thousands of new jobs."

Key elements of the LNP's strong plan for public transport in south-east Queensland include:

    Providing $1 billion to deliver the BaT tunnel, an underground bus and train tunnel that will deliver 48 extra trains and 160 buses, and create thousands of jobs;
    Duplicating the Sunshine Coast rail line between Beerburrum and Landsborough, saving passengers about an hour on a return trip and making travel safer;
    Supporting the Gold Coast Light Rail stage 2 project;
    Upgrading and building new Park 'n' Rides to provide more than 5000 extra car spaces at south-east Queensland train stations and bus hubs over the next six years; and
    Committing $295 million to make dangerous level crossings across Brisbane safer for local drivers and rail passengers.

Mr Newman said passengers had been calling for more car parks around train stations and bus hubs, and the LNP had already scrapped Labor's shortsighted policy banning park n' rides within 10 kilometres of the city.

"By providing new and improved Park 'n' Rides, we'll make it easier for south-east Queensland commuters to get to and from work so they can spend more time with their family and less time travelling," he said.

Mr Newman said the LNP was also committed to making public transport safer.

"We've already built new rail overpasses at Robinson Road, Geebung and at Telegraph Road, Bracken Ridge," he said.

"If re-elected, we'll work in partnership with the Brisbane City Council to fund safety upgrades at other level crossings across Brisbane to make travel for rail and road users safer and faster."

Mr Newman said the LNP was committed to building the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 2 project.

"We'll continue to work to get the costs down, and continue to make sure we deliver a project that stacks up," he said.

"While Labor left a $300 million black hole after bungling the planning of Stage 1, we will do the proper planning to ensure Stage 2 delivers better services for passengers on the Gold Coast at the best price for taxpayers.

"We're 100% committed to this important project as part of funding Queensland's future,"

Mr Newman said the LNP's plan was fully funded and fully costed.

"Only the LNP has a strong and stable team with a strong economic plan to deliver the jobs of tomorrow, real cost of living relief for families, better roads and public transport, and the schools and hospitals our growing state needs," he said.

"It's a plan we can truly afford because we've made the strong choices to pay down debt and invest in job creating infrastructure.

"The alternative is a weak Labor Government that has no economic plan and no way of funding its promises.

"The only way to ensure jobs, certainty and growth is to just vote one for the LNP."
