PTV Timetable and Geographic Information - GTFS

This dataset provides static timetable data and geographic information in the The General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) format. It contains scheduled information for all metropolitan and regional trains, all metropolitan and regional bus (including coach) and all metropolitan tram services in Victoria.

The General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) defines a common format for public transport schedules and associated geographic information. The GTFS provides scheduled information for all metropolitan and regional train, tram and bus services in Victoria.

Looks like they are also running a developer 'hackathon' event called VicTripathon, similar to the Brisbane Open Data Awards and the hackathon event that Sydney held a couple years ago.

Not sure how detailed the real-time data will be, but from reading the comments in that reddit thread, it may just be stop predictions (as opposed to also having vehicle positions like the Brisbane GTFS-RT feed), which kind of limits the applications you can make from it.
