You never know there could be a change of Government in 2024 that could lead to many reforms in respects to Olympic and commuter transport planning around the venues. We could also see the trains run privately with driver only or automation on some lines.

Cazza

Tell him he's dreaming! I'm yet to hear any sort of sound transport policy or direction from State Blue Team. They can't even hold the current Government accountable for all their transport mishaps, let alone come up with their own :-r

#Metro

Change of government, maybe we will be reintegrated into NSW, lol

Brisbanetimes --> Gabba revamp details sought ahead of federal funding decision

QuoteA top-level authority similar to the body that drove preparations for the successful Sydney Olympics is likely to oversee major projects, including the $1 billion Gabba stadium redevelopment, for any 2032 Brisbane Games.

But the Morrison government wants more details before it will agree to cover half the cost of plans – released by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Tuesday – to raise the stadium height and capacity limit.

The 126-year-old site would essentially be demolished and rebuilt under the proposal for it to host the opening and closing ceremonies should the International Olympic Committee decide in the Sunshine State's favour in coming months.

The proposal comes after earlier ideas to build a new stadium north of the CBD or upgrade another on the Gold Coast were dismissed for being too disconnected from public transport.

A Gabba revamp would link it to the neighbouring Cross River Rail station by a pedestrian plaza, providing easy access to the dozens of events already held there each year. ...

The Australian --> Stand-off over 2032 Olympics bid funding $

QuoteThe federal government is refusing to bow to a deadline set by Annastacia Palaszczuk to commit to funding half of the Queensland Olympic Games bid by Monday.

Negotiations between the governments are at a stand-off as they prepare to finalise their joint bid for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics after the Queensland Premier announced on Tuesday that the Gabba cricket and AFL ground would be demolished and rebuilt as a 50,000-seat venue for $1bn — making it the smallest Olympic stadium in 100 years — and asked for the federal government to pay for half of it.

Ms Palaszczuk said time was running out to meet a deadline to provide assurances to the International Olympic Committee — which has identified Brisbane as its preferred bidder — by Monday, including a 50 per cent funding commitment from the federal government.

It is understood the Queensland government signed off on its guarantees at a cabinet meeting on Monday, and that the Brisbane City Council is on track for its guarantees.

Scott Morrison's Olympics representative, Ted O'Brien, said he was confident the guarantee deadline would be met but it did not necessarily include a funding commitment for the stadium from the federal government. ...

Couriermail --> Gabba redevelopment: Federal Government agrees to fund half Olympics revamp $

QuoteThe Federal Government has confirmed it will fund half the redevelopment of the Gabba stadium for the 2032 Olympics bid but only if Queensland implements an independent Games coordination authority.

The Courier-Mail understands Prime Minister Scott Morrison is writing to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Monday to confirm his government will fund its part of the project on the proviso the independent authority oversees the implementation of Olympics infrastructure. ...

Brisbanetimes --> Federal government agrees to fund half of Brisbane's 2032 Olympic Games costs

QuotePrime Minister Scott Morrison has guaranteed the federal government will cover half the costs for the 2032 Olympics, should frontrunner Brisbane be confirmed as the Games host.

The pledge was contained in a letter from Mr Morrison to Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, which arrived with the Premier late on Monday afternoon. ...

Wonder if we can get a railway line to Maroochydore out of this?  :bna:

kram0

With this current incompetent lot and their lack of transparency, I'd be surprised if we get a duplication of the Cleveland line.  :frs:

As it should. Note, let's see if Palaszczuk & co. can produce a decent business case (which they failed to do with CRR).

'
Indeed.  I think in Federal infrastructure circles the prevailing view is that Queensland business cases are perhaps 'less than rigorous'.

The Feds are being a bunch of feeble hypocrites though, they commit billions to projects in NSW and Victoria that don't have business cases, but hey that's politics.

As far as great leaps in #fastraildreaming or much other than the 'Gabba upgrade if it stacks up,  there will not be much.

There might be a case to increase funding to the Sunshine Coast line and perhaps Kuraby to Beenleigh amplification.

I think one thing they should push for is funding for ETCS L2 network wide rollout, and level crossing removals.

Gold Coast Bulletin --> Gold Coast development: Light rail, trains and green bridges eyed for $9 billion funding war chest  $

QuoteCITY leaders want both sides of federal politics to "show the Gold Coast the money" when a $9 billion war chest is split up to decide the country's next prime minister.

Light and heavy rail extensions to the airport, giant green bridges between Surfers Paradise and Chevron Island as part of the Home of the Arts (HOTA) precinct expansion, a boutique stadium and extra money for tourism are just some of the projects needing love, business and civic leaders say.

Mayor Tom Tate said he would go on the offensive once southeast Queensland was confirmed as the host of the 2032 Olympic Games. A decision on who wins the rights to the Games is expected on July 23. ...

Typical SEQ pollie...why's he need the Olympics to go on the offensive? That's 9/10ths the problem right there, they should always be out for necessary critical infrastructure, infrastructure already so far behind where it needs to be....in 10yrs time, it'll all be simply beyond rescue!   :steam:

Brisbanetimes --> Green light nears for Brisbane 2032 Olympic bid

QuoteBrisbane's bid to host of the 2032 Olympic Games should have only one hurdle left to clear by the end of the week, as the process nears the home turn and a potential announcement on the eve of the Tokyo Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board is conducting a virtual meeting this week, part of which will include a report from the Future Host Commission, the group that does the due diligence on cities with aspirations of hosting the Games. ...

QuoteWow, looks good.
#Rail proposed to (#SunshineCoast) Kawana by 2032 according to
@SEQMayors

Good also as this is one horizon they can't revise. The Olympics waits for no-one.  :lo

On the other hand didn't the premier say "it's not in the bid, its not in the bid?"

I think it was the fast rail that was "not in the bid", but I could be wrong

timh

I've downloaded the full bid document. It highlights all the transport corridors that will be useful to the games and any sort of rail along the Camcos alignment is not shown at all. Qld govt setting the bar pretty low with what PT infrastructure they expect to have built by 2032.

I'll link to document later today

I hear you Timh
At the end of the day, it will be a Queensland Government decision.
I understand that negotiations will be required under the over-arching Olympic Coordination Authority.

Let me know if that link works.

Looking at it again, as I said above they have set the bar VERY low for PT infrastructure. There are green dotted lines for planned new infrastructure and dark blue lines for planned upgraded infrastructure. Included in these is:
- Northern Transitway
- Eastern "bus priority corridor"
- GCLR to Burleigh
- CRR
- B2N upgrade (all the way to Nambour at least)
- Coomera Connector (yuck)
- a bunch of other highway upgrades

There is absolutely no mention of:
- Salisbury to Beaudesert line (despite it being kinda useful for transporting ~13,000 expected punters to Wyalarong for the rowing (shuttle bus from Beaudesert obviously)
- GCL extension to OOL
- GCLR stage 4, despite Tom Tate saying it's "essential" for the games
- Cleveland Line duplication (despite the plan to build a new games venue near Cleveland)
- Springfield line extension
- CAMCOS
- Beenleigh line upgrades (despite that being pretty essential for quality GCL services)
- Hamilton extension (despite their being a planned Olympic village there)

Pretty slack tbh

I don't think the Gold Coast has ever gotten value for money out of its membership anyway.

Thank god we still have time on our side to plan and lobby, as I hold out little hope we will get anything revolutionary on the rail/PT front.

At best I would say all we can hope for/expect would be:

Rail extension to GC Airport.
Tram extension to GC Airport/Coolangatta.
Beenleigh line upgrades (3 track only).
Manly to Cleveland duplication.

Less hopeful:
Trouts Road Rail
Rail to Hamilton/Portside (this should be a priority considering the population of this pocket both now and post games).
Rail to Caloundra.

Absolute F%^ken disgrace these core elements have been left out of the plan.  :frs: :fp:
