Is it not the case that QUEENSLAND bid for the Olympic Games? QUEENSLAND signatures are at the bottom of the Olympic Games bid and acceptance documentation. The Commonwealth signed on to the Brisbane Arena and not a financial contribution to Roma Street Station or a pathway to the Arena. They remain QUEENSLAND GOVERNMENT matters to resolve, and pay for.

These cost blowouts and reviews are more about reorganising the forward works program - ditching some Labor Government commitments and replacing them with LNP election promises.

Having said that, most of the documentation about Olympic Games costs state that they end up being more like 150 per cent of the original estimate, so we can expect a total Games cost in 2032 of around $10.5 billion.

AnonymouslyBad

^ $10.5 billion would be a remarkably good outcome. The quicker government actually accepts that the Olympics will go over budget, the better. A road building project goes over by billions and nobody bats an eyelid...

That said, half the "Olympics" budget is activity that needs to happen in the next decade with or without the Olympics. Well, until the necessary Gabba rebuild/replacement was replaced with temporary stands at QSAC :fp:

How much will the '100-day review' cost taxpayers overall?

Will Graham 'Mr Victoria Park' Quirk be involved again?

Will external consultants be used, despite LNP promising to cut down on them?

Are you able to complete the review in 60-days instead?

Aren't you suppose to be setting up an independent authority to deliver the 2032 Games and remove all of politics from the planning and construction, and not one just for this review?

When are you going to bulldoze Boondal and QSAC?

Couriermail --> Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games would have taken funding hit by $1.4bn $

QuoteA whopping $1.4bn of Queensland's budget to build Olympic and Paralympic Games venues was set to be gobbled up by pro-union construction perks, the state government has revealed.

Treasury forecasting, released by the newly-minted LNP government, revealed $1.42bn of the $7.1bn funding envelope would be saved by suspending the controversial Best Practice Industry Conditions (BPIC).

The savings, a fifth of the funding package, will instead be diverted to the scope of works for select venues following the government's 100-day infrastructure review. ...

"I would expect those types of projects would be reopened to the market.

"I think that will encourage a lot more people who aren't aligned with the CFMEU to actually put forward propositions or proposals."

How are you going to remove BPIC from projects that have been already approved and money allocated to?

Cancel the projects and start them again?

NothingToSay

I highly doubt there's that much in BPIC. They're saying not only 1/5th of wages, but 1/5th of the project itself comes from BPIC contract perks? Not a chance.

So have massive breach of contract penalities?

The other possible concequence of this is a number of the tradies who have stuck around with this may end up looking for work in the mining industry instead, causing labour shortages for Gov projects causing delays instead. Will be an interesting one to watch.
