The Advertiser --> Spanish train manufacturer Talgo to seek funding to run passenger rail trial between Mount Barker and Adelaide $

QuoteA leading European train manufacturer says it will fund a $2.5m trial to prove a passenger rail service between Mount Barker and Adelaide is viable.

Talgo, known for its production and distribution of high-speed trains, is calling on the State Government to grant its support for a passenger rail trial to prove an express service could be run within 45 minutes, opposed to the Infrastructure SA's 71 minute estimate.

The 26 minute reduction is based on modelling of Talgo's rolling stock on the Australian Rail Track Corporation line. ...

EMU Talgo is a totally flexible and adaptable train that can run at up to 160 km/h and benefits from Talgo's unique technology. It is the type of tilt train that could be purchased by the State Government should the trial be deemed a success. Source: Talgo

The Advertiser --> Process starts to trial Talgo trains from Mount Barker to Adelaide CBD $

QuoteThe new Labor state government has begun a process to trial a passenger train between Adelaide and Mt Barker, keeping an election promise.

Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis said the department was seeking data from Spanish train manufacturer Talgo to run on SA simulators to check they were compatible.

The Advertiser can reveal the company is applying for an EU grant to ship its vehicles to Adelaide for a trial. Sales of trains would be the outcome for the EU investment, which began as an election challenge by Talgo against the former state government's claim that the journey would take 71 minutes.

Talgo, known for its production and distribution of high-speed trains, claims it can do the run within 45 minutes, making it a viable option for commuters sick of delays on the South-Eastern Freeway. ...

ABC News --> Mount Barker has a railway station, but no passenger trains to Adelaide — could that change?

QuoteThe Adelaide Hills town of Mount Barker is undergoing a population explosion, and that's on track to continue over the next decade.

The big issue for locals has long been infrastructure — especially transport corridors connecting the emerging peri-urban centre with Adelaide's CBD about 30 kilometres away.

One option is, and has long been, a railway line.

There have been rumblings for years, and while talk of trains has not quite been smoke and mirrors, it's fair to say there's been a lot of hot air.

But a Spanish company is about to embark on what is potentially the most significant step yet towards getting trains back to Mount Barker. ...

Makes you wonder in SEQ, why the endless stuffing around with putting inter-urban up to Toowoomba and sprinter trains on the Downs!  A blindly obvious opportunity.....

The Advertiser --> Spanish firm Talgo approved for Hills-Adelaide rail technoloy trial $

QuoteA trial of rail services in the Adelaide Hills has been approved by the state government.

Spanish company Talgo will be allowed to test its railcar technology on a 55km rail line between the central Adelaide Hills and Adelaide.

Kavel MP Dan Cregan welcomed the move, and said the service would provide a much-needed alternative to road travel.

"I am aware that Talgo, the Spanish railcar manufacturer, produces train-sets for mixed-gauge networks like ours in the Hills," he said.

"I have been calling on the government to allow a trial of Talgo's technology and I am delighted the trial has been approved, subject to conditions."

However, he said the decision to approve a trial did not mean that passenger train services would necessarily go ahead. ...

Because it's a 4 hour trip up the range?  There's no overcoming geometry.

Not sure what the confusion is?

Toowoomba has a long winded climb up the range full of turns, so on the current alignment a diesel sprinter would be 1-2h slower than the coach service.

So its not worth doing.

But if inland rail gets built it would shorten and straighten the line enough to make such a service possible.
