SurfRail

Believe it's within Mont Albert so possibly that will be retained.

IIRC these are the last 2 LXs left between the city and Ringwood, so I don't think much more work will happen on stations inbound of Ringwood along the same vein as the skyrail corridors.

Herald Sun --> Early works on Pakenham East Station to begin in 2021

Quote... Early works on a new station extending Melbourne's busy Pakenham line will begin this year, with the Andrews Government announcing the site of the station and acquisitions that will impact six properties.

The state government will on Thursday release details of the location of Pakenham East Station as part a fast-tracked plan to extend the Metro network by 2km to the growing outer suburb.

It will be built between Deep Creek and the Princes Freeway, with the main entrance point to be built on the northern platform.

Crews will deliver the extension as of a level crossing blitz that will remove three boom gates in the region, with Skyrail to elevate trains through Pakenham. ...

Rail Express --> Four level crossings to go in Melbourne's north

QuoteFOUR of Melbourne's level crossings soon will be gone, with works now underway on the state government's Preston Level Crossing Removal Project.

Level crossings at Oakover Road, Bell Street, Cramer Street and Murray Road in Preston will be gone by the end of 2022, with new stations at Bell and Preston and significant new open space under the rail bridge ready for the community to enjoy in 2023.

The project is set to benefit more than 82,000 motorists who pass through these level crossings on the Mernda line every day – with the boom gates down for up to 40 per cent of the morning peak, and will make Bell Street – one of Melbourne's busiest arterial roads – completely level crossing free. ...

10 more level crossings to go by 2025
29 Jul 2021

Another 10 dangerous and congested level crossings will be removed by 2025, bringing the total to 85 level crossings gone for good.

More level crossings will be removed on the Pakenham, Lilydale, Belgrave, Frankston, Sunbury and Mernda lines, improving safety, reducing congestion and creating 4000 new jobs.

Removing these extra crossings will make the Cranbourne/Pakenham and Lilydale lines level crossing-free, allowing more trains to run on the network, more often, without frustrating boom gate delays.

Work is underway at more than 20 sites across Melbourne so it makes sense to get rid of these extra level crossings while crews are already on the ground, maximising efficiencies and ensuring more crossings can go sooner.

Daniel Bowen More crossings to go

QuoteLast week the State Government announced another ten level crossings to be removed, on the Pakenham, Frankston, Mernda, Sunbury, Lilydale and Belgrave lines.

This made sense in part because they want to keep the workforce busy once other projects are completed. Leave it too long and those skilled people will move elsewhere, and you can't get them back for the next tranche of projects.  ...
