Dubai's new tram/LR will open on 11-11-14 (everything opens here on magic number combination dates, red line was 9-9-09, green line was similar.)

Ticket price fixed rate at 3dh's (about 90c Aussie). If using the normal NOL charging system used on metro, buses and water buses, the rate would be 2.7dh's, but for some reason they have changed their mind. Being a Benevolent Monarchy with absolute power and 85% of the population on work visa's with the other 15% devoted to their leaders. No one will ask why it was changed and we will probably never be told.

The tram line is basically a figure "P" shape. With a one way section of single track with two stations forming loop. the leg from the last station to the depo is nearly 2km, but potentially in future will be part of the revenue section of the network. A photo of the stub section sof twin track at far end or yard sort of indicate there is a plan for extension.

Phase 2 extension which will use part of the depo route, will go to the famous Burg Al Arab (hotel on small island, icon of Dubai), large hotels that are also within a short walk and water park. It will have a Y junction to enable a run up to the Metro station that connects to Mall of the Emirates, one of the worlds largest and the one with the famous Dubai ski field inside. Basically tram station terminus will be next to pedestrian bridge from the station across the 16 lane hwy.
