^ From the photo I saw of the hatchback stuck on the Sundale bridge earlier, I suspect it may now hold the record.

The cop car was on the Jarraparilla Cove section.  I can actually understand how that ended up the way it did, but it was still hideously dangerous for the cops to have entered the reservation like that - the rail-only bit would have probably been invisible until the top of the crest of the bridge, meaning they also would not have been able to see approaching trams.

Looks like the hatch went for two wheels on the access way and two on the tracks.

Maintenance is an understatement.  I understand there will be full blown track relaying in places because of continuing issues with stray currents.

Gold Coast Bulletin --> Jazz fans forced to ride bus to Broadbeach tomorrow as light rail network closes for work

This ..

"  ... GoldLinQ communications and stakeholder director Jason Ward said replacement buses would run from Cavill Avenue to Broadbeach South station every 10 minutes from 1am Sunday until services returned to normal from the first tram on Monday.

“The works planned for Sunday, 16 August require the use of particular material tools and personnel and this date is the most appropriate to accommodate all factors,” he said.

“There are no changes to TransLink standard ticketing requirements and all buses have Go card readers.”

Mr Ward said the work was not related to an incident on August 6 which saw trams suspended between Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach after powerlines fell on a moving light rail carriage during peak hour ... "

Why schedule this on the weekend of a major event?  Shades of QR and their habit of closing the Ippy on Ipswich Cup weekend.

Why is QLD so "tone deaf" when it comes to the impact of public transport shutdowns on events?

It wasn't that major an event, and in any event the replacement services don't involve massive delays.

Perhaps they were a bit overzealous in trying to cram it all into Sunday.

Be interesting to see if they can get it all in this time!

I have always been in Brisbane over the weekend whenever one of these shutdowns has been on so I have not had the privilege of checking out how they manage - same again this weekend.

Not 100% sure what the 'operational issue' involved.
This is what TransLink told me, via Twitter:

Quote
@darcyreynolds36 There was a vehicle caught on the tracks, between Cavill Av & Southport stns that was removed. -S

... 'vehicle caught on the tracks' apparently. Not sure whether this was another car-stuck-on-bridge incident or something like a breakdown at an intersection (big 60 min delays, so I presume the former). If it was a car-stuck-on-bridge incident, I'm surprised the media haven't jumped on it! ;D

Section disruption is going to be a problem with GCLRT expansion. It is in class B ROW so there are many opportunities for cars to enter the ROW and cause lengthy disruptions. Hopefully, when new sections of the LRT are built, another LRT depot will be placed at the southern end near the OOL airport.

There is a university at the end of the OOL runway, quite new, but that will expand over time. LRT station for that should be considered as well as running into NSW.

Are there fines for this kind of thing? It is obvious that the road rules book needs to be updated - there is NO mention of trams anywhere in the driving licence learning book. Also barely anything about driving into low rail bridges etc.

I think a second yard is a given.  The existing depot has room for (I think) 30 trams, which is not going to be anywhere near enough to maintain the current timetable if operating over 40+ km. As it stands, once Helensvale opens the depot will be over 50% capacity and even without further extensions any timetable upgrade would chew up even more space.
