Sunshine Coast Daily --> Aurizon restructure will cost 18 full-time jobs

QuoteAURIZON'S freight arm will shut down two depots before the end of the month, costing 18 full-time and contractor jobs in Gladstone, Toowoomba and Warwick.

The rail firm, once known as QR National, is restructuring the way it handles its freight.

The closure of Toowoomba's depot will affect six staff and one contractor.

When Warwick's depot is shuttered, that will be another three.

In Central Queensland, Gladstone's closure will affect three staff and five contractors.

All three will be empty come March 28.

For those in south-west Queensland towns including Oakey, Dalby, Stanthorpe and Killarney, all its freight will be handled from Aurizon's centre at Acacia Ridge in Brisbane.

Container services for Gladstone will be handled by either by depots in Mount Miller or Rockhampton.

A spokeswoman for Aurizon said all full-time staff were either given voluntary redundancies or would be considered for other jobs inside the company.
