I would love to have gone but the funds will be a bit low.

Standing on an end saloon going over the M4/M5 interchange viaduct will be interesting.

Interesting statement in the advert:

"This will be our one and only opportunity to run steam along this new line due to the intensity of suburban train services and new timetabling."

So is new timetabling expected on the Ipswich Line on a Saturday?

Great run out to Springfield Central, via Tennyson with a run into Darra from Corinda on the UP sub (the freight line) for an added interest.

Letter to editor Queensland Times.

Submitted 10th March 2014

Dear Editor,

On Saturday a special steam train, organised by the Australian Railway Historical Society, Queensland Division visited Springfield Central.

This was history in the making, a Queensland Railways heritage locomotive and carriages travelling on one of the newest modern railway lines in Australia.

It was wonderful to note the many smiling faces of passengers on train platforms as the train made its way from Roma St station to Springfield Central and then to Ipswich, finally returning to Roma St.  A good crowd welcomed the train at Springfield Central too, as befits such a special and historic occasion.

Congratulations to Queensland Rail Heritage section for maintaining the heritage locomotives and rolling stock.  Thanks to the ARHS QLD Division for organising the special train.

It was a most enjoyable day.  Well done!

Yours sincerely,

Robert Dow
