Xmas & NYE timetables - free NYE travel

Wednesday 18 December 2013

'Tis the season for holiday cheer as TransLink provides free public transport for the busiest night of the public transport calendar.

TransLink spokesperson Kirby Orr said free public transport will be provided, once again, on all bus, rail and ferry services on the TransLink network between 9pm on New Year's Eve and 5.30am on New Year's Day.

"There will also be extra services in place to cater for the busiest night of the year for public transport, with additional trains, buses and ferries," said Ms Orr.

Approximately 80 additional trains, more than 640 additional buses and 30 additional ferry services will operate, with some ferries operating in Brisbane City as sweeper services to cater to the increased inner city demand.

"The free travel arrangements are in place to assist efficient passenger boarding from congested areas and are timed to start following the first session of the fireworks in Brisbane."

"To make sure everyone gets home safely, buses will continue to depart after midnight from the Brisbane CBD and Valley precincts and CityCats will run into the early morning."

Ten secure taxi ranks and three flatfare ranks will operate in the Brisbane CBD, Caxton Street and Fortitude Valley, with secure ranks also operating in Ipswich and on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts.

All details of free travel arrangements, additional train, bus and ferry services, and secure and flat fare taxi services is available at translink.com.au or by phoning the Contact Centre on 13 12 30.

Limited public transport services will run across the network on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Ms Orr said many operators run to different timetables for the Christmas and New Year holidays depending on what is required in each region.

Bus, train and ferry timetables for the Christmas and New Year's holiday period are already available through the journey planner on TransLink's website.

Normal fares and conditions will apply for travel over the holiday period (with exceptions on the Sunshine Coast and for the free New Year period mentioned). Those travelling on concession go cards or tickets will be required to show a valid student ID or concession pass when requested.

For more information or to plan your trip visit the TransLink web or mobile site or phone the 24/7 Contact Centre on 13 12 30.

Interesting to see in the TL statement above that they don't actually mention that trains will be running all night on New Years Eve/Day, with hourly services after 1:30ish on most lines. Buses and Ferries get a mention, but trains don't...
All opinions stated are my own and do not reflect those held by my employer.
