"ONE rail line in the best place, for the whole community" is what farmers have told Premier Newman they want.

QuoteThe Corridor to the Coast Galilee Network said the rail line from mines in the Galilee Basin to the ports goes right through a flood plain and spells disaster.

Network member Peter Anderson urged the Premier to have a look at it for himself.

"We want the government to encourage these companies to investigate a single corridor which connects all the mining tenements on the western side of the Belyando and cross the river once, down stream where it isn't on the flood plain," Mr Anderson said.

"If this corridor goes in its current location it is going to be an absolute disaster for the Queensland mining industry."

He said the route if slightly changed would also offer increased benefits to the entire region and flood damage to rail lines in Rolleston showed the need of getting it right the first time.

Note: seems newman did stop in at emerald recetly so hopefully this issue was discussed!
