Springfield rail line opens Monday 2 December 2013

Last updated: 1.46pm Wednesday 23 October 2013

On Monday 2 December, the first trains will depart Springfield and Springfield Central stations as Queensland Rail and TransLink unveil the new Springfield rail extension (PDF, 751KB).

The new timetable will extend current Richlands services to provide more than 580 train services between Springfield Central and Brisbane's CBD each week.

Other key features of the new timetable include:

consistent services stopping all stations between Springfield Central and the Brisbane CBD
services every 6 to 12 minutes in the morning peak, and every 12 minutes in the afternoon peak
consistent 30 minute departures during Monday to Friday off-peak and on Saturdays
services every hour from 7am and every half hour from approximately 10am to 10.30pm each Sunday.

Springfield services will be represented by a light blue colour on the train network map, timetables and passenger information displays.

Timetables will be available online soon, and at key City network train stations in November.

You'll be able to access the new Springfield Central station by bus, with a number of bus service improvements also starting on Monday  2 December, to take advantage of the new bus interchange at the station.

Being picky I know but why is acessing the station by bus or bike on the second page like an after thought?  Yet again the Translink/QR obsession with PT only working if people can drive there!!!  So out of touch with the rest of the world!!!!!

2 out of 3 aint too bad ..   ;D

SEQ:  Next station is Springfield!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has welcomed the announcement by the Premier (1) that the railway line presently being constructed from Darra to Richlands will be now be fast-tracked to Springfield.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Rail is the safe, sustainable, efficient high capacity mass transit system for the long haul.  The announcement yesterday by the Premier that today's budget will confirm funding for the fast tracking of the railway  line from Richlands to Springfield is outstanding news. It will also tap into the increased capacity on the western line as a result of the Corinda to Darra track amplification."

"RAIL Back On Track has long suggested that the original concept for a single line from Richlands to Stepham was not desirable (2).  We are delighted to learn the the line from Richlands to Springfield is now to be double track all the way!"

"We believe it would be preferable that the planned stations at Ellen Grove and Springfield lakes be built as part of the 'green-field' construction."

"Nonetheless, it is very welcome news that trains will soon be running through to Springfield!"

Sorry Jonno, but that is a bit of a stupid complaint, its clearly a PDF of a brochure they plan to print (Hence the "front cover" with the picture of the station and Translink logo is on the top right, due to the folding sequence, and not top left as you'd expect.

Flip it around in your head, and as you open it the first thing you'd see is timetable page and the the page listing facilities. The next unfolding (panel 3 swings from underneath) reveals the bus/bike access page, with the line map and car access page then revealed by turning the whole sheet over.

SEQ: Next station Springfield Central!

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has welcomed the announcement of the commencement of  train services on the Springfield railway line from the 2nd December 2013 (1).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"A new extension to  the SEQ rail network commences operation from December 2nd! Rail services will commence between Richlands, Springfield and Springfield Central."

"This is very welcome news for south-east Queensland and Springfield area residents of course."

"We have noted the worsening road traffic congestion on the road network west of Brisbane.  This will give citizens a real alternative to the daily road chaos!"

"The Trackstar alliance are to be congratulated on this project.  It is first rate, we have had a number of tours during construction."

"The previous State Governments should also be congratulated for their vision. The present State Government has also supported this project and have expanded the park and ride capacity at Springfield Central."

"To coincide with the commencement of rail services to Springfield Central, the Western Region bus network will also be changing (2)."

"The major disappointment however is that the planned bicycle path was not completed.  Hopefully this can be done as planned in the next few years (3)."

"All aboard for Springfield Central!"

Quick question.  Since the opening will be the 2nd December, what day are we heading out for a final go at route 535, and check out the other routes in the Ipswich area?  The 29th November?

Less than 2 years since Richlands opened...Not bad   :co3

Actual construction period was less than two years.

Richlands opened on the 17th January 2011, without fanfare as Brisbane recovered from floods.  A big effort was made to get trains running a week early to assist in mobility with flood recovery.

Ha! I noticed that as well. Typical TransLink.

I'm not sure why it's 'typical'.  Just needs to be uploaded to the server, that's all.  It will happen tomorrow when the staff head back to work.

STB

The Springfield train timetable is now up on the TransLink website.

The map is utterly appalling.

Strictly speaking the map will be wrong from Springfield opening until 20 January 2014 but I can appreciate there is little point pushing out a second version in such a short space of time.  However:

- It looks rubbish generally with missing stops on the Northern Busway (and yet Dutton Park place is shown), crazy angles for Ferny Grove and Varsity Lakes, the kink at Roma Street for the Springfield line etc
- Springwood is missing
- The '^' symbol is still next to Park Road (symbolising some GC trains stop and others don't), yet the GC stopping pattern shows Altandi.  Looks like somebody forgot it.

Also, why can't they show the Ipswich services in the timetable the way these services appear in the Ipswich timetable?

Anyone spotted the error on the map?  Hint, it's around the Springfield area and has to do with the zones. ;)

Springfield PDF link is dead again.

Yo!  Various times today the links to Springfield and Ipswich-Rosewood have been up then down and up and then down ...

Yes, presently Springfield is down again, Ipswich is up. A while ago it was the opposite ..

Old Northern Road

Sandgate and Narangba don't have a wheelchair accessible symbol next to them either.
