CityCat and ferry timetable changes

Brisbane City Council is making changes to Brisbane's ferry network on 21 October 2013. The minor timetable and route changes will enable Council to deliver an efficient and more economically sustainable network.

Timetable changes

Non-peak daytime services on weekdays (those running after the morning peak and before the evening peak) will run every 15 minutes instead of every 12 minutes
Night CityCat services will run every 30 minutes instead of every 25 minutes from Sunday to Thursday
Last service Sunday to Thursday will leave Riverside at approximately 11:15pm
Cross River Ferry service timetables will change, but will continue to have a 10-15 minute frequency for most of the day
Due to go slows, 12 minutes will be added on to trips both ways between Apollo Road and The University of Queensland (UQ)

Route change

Express services will no longer stop at Teneriffe during peak periods. Cross-river services to Bulimba from Teneriffe are available for commuters to access express services from Bulimba to the city. CityGlider bus services are also available from Teneriffe ferry terminal for commuters to access the city.

Couriermail Quest --> Brisbane's CityCat ferry timetables to change

QuoteBrisbane's CityCat ferry timetables to change
Peta Fuller Quest Newspapers October 21, 2013 12:00AM

FERRY commuters will see cuts in their services from today as a new timetable is rolled out across the network.

CityCat frequencies will decrease outside the peak with day trips to run every 15 minutes and night services every 30 minutes, a drop of two to five minutes in frequency.

The last CityCat service will leave 15 minutes earlier at 11.30pm and express CityCat services won't stop at Teneriffe from today.

A Brisbane City Council spokeswoman said the changes at Teneriffe would be permanent but the stop would still have a service every 15 minutes.

A shake-up of the timetables will have to deliver a $2 million saving to Brisbane City Council with the cut already outlined in the 2013/14 budget.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said when the changes were announced in August that the savings were to deliver cost-effective outcomes and plan for growth, including the new terminal at Milton and a double berth terminal at Bulimba.

Public transport advocate Robert Dow from Rail Back on Track said they would like to see the changes reviewed in six months.

"We would not like to see any further cuts, then the service may become unattractive and people will form other travel habits," Mr Dow said.

"We're a little bit concerned; this has to be the line in the sand, we think it's really the absolute minimum point for frequency."

He said the CityCat service was one of Brisbane's public transport success stories, particularly for tourism, but changes to frequency could push patronage figures lower.

The City Hopper's timetable remains unaffected.

Greetings,

CityCat and CityFerry timetable changes from today.

Some reduction in frequency.  Teneriffe will now be bypassed by peak CityCat express services.  There is more than adequate high frequency bus from Teneriffe.

I find it a little disturbing how Brisbane City Council is effectively slowly erasing 'TransLink' from their branding and media releases.

I don't expect to see patronage to drop too much. The previous timetable was a fking PITA. It wasn't clockface, it was hard to remember and had ugly timings.

However, there are several things I find disappointing.
1. No frequency increases, instead cuts, which mean the CityCat loses CFN standard
2. Expresses which save no time at all
3. What is up with only some services going to Northshore Hamilton?
4. An absence of any new services in peak

So in short, net loss. All because BCC can't deal with the concept of transfers.  :bu

CityCat was never CFN standard to start with.

And to be honest I'd rather have a 30 minute night time clockface timetable than the ridiculous 22/25/whatever minute crap they had going before, even though it is a slight reduction in frequency.  Who knows, perhaps they could even run on time now.

Quote2. Expresses which save no time at all
I find that a little odd, given the time taking in mooring and unmooring(?) the vessel.

BCC/TL want it to become a public transport black hole?

Bulimba commuters stranded as ferry services cut, councillor says

QuoteBulimba commuters stranded as ferry services cut, councillor says
October 23, 2013 - 10:13AM

A Brisbane city councillor says hundreds of early morning commuters have been left stranded in Bulimba by ferry timetable changes implemented this week.

However, the council has rejected claims made by ALP councillor Shayne Sutton that ferries from Bulimba to Teneriffe have been over capacity, thanks to a huge reduction in frequency of cross river services.

During question time at Tuesday afternoon's council meeting, Cr Sutton said a minor change in the sequence of the upstream CityCat had slashed cross-river services between Bulimba and Teneriffe from 22 to 10 between 7am and 8.30am..

It was a figure that seemed to take Lord Mayor Graham Quirk by surprise.

Before Monday's changes, Cr Sutton said, the ferry to the University of Queensland stopped at Bulimba before Teneriffe.

As of Monday however, that sequence has been reversed, meaning only downstream CityCat services and CityFerries make the crossing.

"Fourteen cross-river CityCat services have been cut ... there were 100 people waiting at Bulimba at 7am (Monday)," she said.

In a statement, deputy mayor Adrian Schrinner called on Cr Sutton to provide proof of her "sensational" claims.

He said that in the wake of Monday's changes, a council officer attended the Bulimba ferry terminal during the morning peak on Tuesday to record the number of passengers boarding the cross-river CityFerry and CityCat services to Teneriffe.

Patronage figures were well below vessel capacity on all services, he said.

"Since the Lord Mayor delivered a CityCat terminal at Teneriffe, demand for the smaller cross-river CityFerry service between the two suburbs has decreased and we've made sensible changes to reflect that," he said.

Cr Schrinner said the decision to reduce CityCat services running direct from Bulimba to Teneriffe in peak periods was primarily about reducing congestion on the river.

"The construction of the new CityCat terminal at Teneriffe also meant we now had CityCats and CityFerries competing for space and parking in the middle of the river waiting for each other," he said.

"These changes will mean those services travelling direct from Bulimba to Teneriffe in the peak can now do so faster and more efficiently without unnecessarily holding up passengers heading further downstream."

I acknowledge that the clockface timetable is an improvement, but in terms of service, it is a net downgrade.

And CityCat did have CFN standard. This was noted in the TransLink bus review, as it had 15-minute (or better) frequency from 7am - 7pm 7 days a week. Now it doesn't. I would have liked to have seen the one service per hour lost by this timetable change re-allocated so the period of high frequency could be further extended, instead of cut like it has been now.

BCC Bus Cost Explosion Engulfs Bulimba CityCats

Greetings,

Brisbane City Council has rejected calls for a free Bulimba Hopper across the river and also rejected the introduction of high frequency BulimbaGlider bus to Bulimba. While a new CityCat terminal will open after approximately six months of closure and shuttle bus operation (a direct replacement bus to the CBD was also rejected by BCC) the residents and businesses of Bulimba will actually have worse, not better, services.

To make matters worse, Bulimba residents are paying $400 per household to BCC each year in subsidies to BCC. We don't think Bulimba ratepayers are getting value for money. We encourage all Bulimba residents to fill out our online survey about public transport in their area, and particularly about the quality (or lack thereof) of bus services 230 and 235.

RAIL Back On Track 2013 Public transport passenger survey --> http://railbotforum.org/lime/index.php/342895/lang-en

Bulimba is not alone in being neglected and rejected. BCC has also been unable to find the funds to deliver 2000 daily express buses down Legacy Way, as promised, or fund high frequency bus services to Albany Creek, Yeronga, Morningside, or the Centenary Suburbs.

The State Government must do something and not sit idly by as workers, families and ratepayers are are taken to the proverbial cleaners. It must pass legislation altering the City of Brisbane Act 2010 to strip BCC of all public transport functions.

With rising debt levels at BCC, RAIL Back on Track calls for the separation of Brisbane Transport from Brisbane City Council and bus contracts to be thrown open to competition. The funds generated from separating Brisbane Transport from BCC can then be used to pay down BCC's growing public debt and will reduce the size of local government by 20%.

"The Lord Mayor and BCC can no longer be trusted to run Brisbane's buses or look after the residents of Bulimba. After a decade of games, it's time to dump Brisbane City Council and separate Brisbane Transport."

Best wishes
Robert

BCC Bus cost explosion engulfs Bulimba - residents fight back

Greetings,

Residents of Bulimba are now petitioning BCC to reverse the Lord Mayor's CityCat cuts, a direct result of failing to reform BCC's hi-waste bus network which has led to a cost explosion. It is our opinion that the present BCC bus network is financially, operationally and politically unsustainable.

We  encourage the public to sign the ePetition on the BCC website http://www.epetitions.brisbane.qld.gov.au/petition/view/pid/137

Bulimba, Balmoral, Hawthorne and Morningside residents are also encouraged to fill out the RAIL Back On Track 2013 Public transport passenger survey http://railbotforum.org/lime/index.php/342895/lang-en

The residents of Bulimba should not have to pay for the spending problems caused by BCC's lemon investment into Clem 7, or buses carrying 50% air at the height of peak hour. Bulimba residents already pay $400 per household in the BCC bus tax for worst class deficient and defective transport services to their area, particularly after BCC rejected a Bulimba-Glider and Bulimba-Hopper to their area. This lack of decent service must be having an impact on the local Bulimba economy and small businesses in that area.

Brisbane City Council and its Councillors should be embarrassed that they were all unable to deliver high frequency services to Yeronga, Albany Creek, Morningside, Inala, Enoggera, the entire Centenary Suburbs and the promised 2000 daily express buses down Legacy Way despite publicly boasting that they could do a better job than TransLink. They couldn't, the BCC review is actually worse; much worse with services cut in West Toowong, CityCats cut, cuts in Yeronga and more.

BCC rejected the TransLink bus review and refused to allow Brisbane Transport to meet with TransLink on at least six occasions.

We doubt, with the rising debt levels at BCC, that the council will be able to continue to fund Brisbane Transport under the current hi-waste direct service congestion prone bus philosophy without major increases in rates.

RAIL Back on Track calls for the separation of Brisbane Transport from Brisbane City Council and bus contracts to be thrown open to competition. The funds generated from separating Brisbane Transport from BCC can then be used to pay down BCC's growing public debt.

Re: BCC Bus cost explosion engulfs Bulimba - residents fight back

Greetings,

Bulimba residents will no doubt continue to wonder what might have been if the proper transport authority had been allowed to implement a connected public transport network.

BCC voted last evening to maintain the ferry cuts which have caused problems at Bulimba.   Lack of proper bus support also compounds the failures.

BCC is putting public transport back years in SEQ.  Time the Premier acted to sort the mess.
