Petersen puts hand up for Ipswich seat state election http://www.qt.com.au/news/petersen-puts-her-hand-up-for-ipswich-seat/2459806/ v @qld_times #qldpol #qldvotes Patricia spot on! #farefailSEQ

Quote...  Ms Petersen said public transport in Ipswich needed to be improved and said the costs of using it were too high. She said this was impacting on people's social lives and cutting into battlers' wages.

"It needs to be remembered that the elderly and disabled don't have a choice. It is not as though they can jump in their cars and drive from A to B.

"They rely on public transport and we need to make sure that the buses are running, that we put on more services and it is affordable. It is still too expensive for people to travel on public transport."  ...

What? Why? The ALP are doing well in the polls and a leadership change will just be a Queensland repeat of the Rudd/Gillard fiasco.

ozbob

Why would they?  For a small opposition they are going very well indeed.  LNP Govt has lost touch with the common voter.

Meanwhile,  stay home Tone!   :P

Fuel for THE CAR? Is that REALLY on the flyer?! Unbelieveable!

Just as bad as the time I was harrased by cheap parking peddlers outside King George Square because the fares were so high!

I see it as a reflection on the poor quality of PT in the suburbs. James recently got his license, and so far I've found it more convenient on non-Citybound trips to use the car - especially those done at night or on Sundays. This isn't because I love cars, it is because PT is abysmal.

Pax using Ferny Grove or Wynnum stations would probably be driving anyway, giving the feeder buses are practically non-existent thanks to BCC.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

The CO2 tax was deleted, they eent to the people a do asked what do you want? Somr of the people spoke, they acted accordinly. Now they are stating what they savings could be used for using the top 4 typical house hold high cost items.

Political avertising/backslapping on how good they are, Yes. Political spin doctoring, No. Take your crimson coloured glasses off for 2sec and and you will see the forest for the treees. It would be just as relevent in Vic as it is Qld.

They only provided two options that people could choose from, either more services or cheaper fares. They didn't provide a third option, get both cheaper fares and more services via network reform, and most lay people, who aren't as educated as us in how PT works, wouldn't have realised that this would be an option. I posted on their facebook a couple of times in response to their advertising of this poll about why they didn't put this third option in, but didn't really get a response from them (not that I was expecting one, since the staff who respond on that page are PR and don't really have much of a PT network background)

ozbob

The poll was aberrant nonsense.  SEQ has TransLink KPIs, they have shown for years  ' affordability ' is a serious issue ..

Outside SEQ, fares on Qconnect/TransLink Cairns are very affordable, half to a third of those in SEQ - more services important for those places, simply done over by numbers from SEQ.

A very psuedo-slick cynical con job.   Politics in public transport at its worst.  I really hope they go down from here, they really do not care for the average punter.

In Perth, with the ' carbon tax windfall ' they simply reduced the fares, again around 5%.  But also rolled out a free travel day as well!  No bullsh%t poll.

Shows what they know about the network though. Ferny Grove station is zone 3, you only pay a 4 zone fare if you catch a all but nonexistent bus to the station.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

New South Wales has fixed term elections.
Their election is due in March 2015.

I think with the way the polling is going, it is now more likely that NSW will have their election first.  The blue mob in NSW will probably be returned and this might be seen as a good thing for the blue mob here in Queensland going into the election.  The only risk is ICAC, but both sides are up to the armpits in corruption -  guess in the case of NSW it is the mob that is least corrupt ... sad and sorry reflection on polyticks.

But political panic is a strange thing.  Newman et al could get seriously spooked if the polls continue to get worse and hit the panic button, with an election late Feb.  However I think at this time will be later than sooner.  If polling reverses they will go on the upswing.

Exactly! A tactical move attempting to provide a strategical advantage - instead of just letting the general public vote based on performance.

Hopefully it comes back to bite them in the bum!

The momentum is there.  This could be the biggest swing in Queensland political history.

thats what i plan to do. surely the people living in this state arent that daft; and will vote based on how the government has (or hasnt) functioned.

it will be interesting to see if either side commit a time frame to the maroochydore railway line. it seems to have dropped off the radar since 2009.

Polyticks is sickening to say the least.  Interesting comment from a LNP MP in the QT this morning

" ... "I think Ipswich will do very poorly if the LNP is returned and there's no LNP members in Ipswich ... " said Member for Ipswich Ian Berry (LNP)
http://www.qt.com.au/news/sitting-mps-ready-for-their-fight-for-survival/2503346/

The illusion that Govts are for all is nonsensical of course.   The LNP is very much for the cashed up donors.  Here we we have an idiot confirming it publicly ..   :-r

I was sort of expecting 2 minute trains on the Ferny Grove ...   :P
