Bid to lift public transport use

A parliamentary committee has handed down a damning report into public transport in southern Tasmania.

After a 12-month inquiry, the Legislative Council Committee has delivered 29 recommendations.

They include a review of the public bus company Metro Tasmania and a trial of an integrated ferry service on Hobart's River Derwent, lasting at least a year.

Inquiry chairwoman Adriana Taylor says Hobart's public transport figures do not compare well with other Australian cities.

"It's way below. There's a graph that shows public transport in every capital city and we are far and away the lowest users of public transport," she said.

Hobart has a shocking bus network. Illegible routes, low frequency. They really could learn from the BUZ concept.
