This very interesting program had two items of interest to those of us who think car dependence is a bad thing.

First interview was with Professor Peter Newman, from Perth, the architect of Perth's modern public transport and active transport environment. He is a member of Infrastructure Australia, the Rudd taskforce that has to prioritize Australia's national infrastructure needs. Given that Rudd has told Channel Nine that the feds should be spending on public transport, Newman's views are of great interest.

Second, and of less interest to railway buffs, was an interview with Councillor Jane Prentice, BCC chair Active Transport and Sustainability, and Elliot Fishman, director of the Institute for Sensible Transport.

"Rail is back!"  Professor Peter Newman.

Too right it is back Professor Newman!!   :D  Some might say "It's back on track!"  ;)

Good items on the bikes and their important role as active transport too!
More roll out of bike paths will help at lot as Cr Prentice commented, and looks like a bit of money for that in the BCC budget next week.

Thanks for the link John.  Recommended listening.
