Was surfing You Tube and I came across this BBC series on the London Underground.  It's an absolutely fascinating series that looks at the human factor behind the London Underground and a very detailed look at the day to day operations of what goes on of keeping a train network like the London Underground in this case going.

One interesting fact I took from this documentary, of the episode I saw which focused on the emergency services patrolling the London Underground network was:

- they actually say to passengers 'person under a train', when there has been someone hit by a train, and according to this documentary there are about 40 incidents a year, with half of those being a fatality.

There are other episodes you can watch, just click on the channel link below the video.  The episode goes for an hour.

I love the underground, it's really expensive but you definitely get what you paid for in service frequency and span of hours.

Must be absolutely manic keeping it running; London would be at a standstill without it!

No problems!

What I find amazing about this documentary the most is that the London Underground gets so busy that to control the crowds and prevent a disaster on the platforms and the movement of trains that they can actually shut the station even in the middle of peak hour at the busiest stations there.  And a train delayed by even 1 min can have a massive effect on trains behind it and cause delays of up to 10 mins.   Absolutely amazing!  :-w

Makes our system look like a walk in the park.

The LUL is extremely complicated though, given its historical provenance.  Not a huge number of metro systems in the world feature so much in the way of branching, sharing with mainline services etc.
