Cooran, in the Noosa Hinterland, is the northernmost stop for the Translink bus service (Route 632) in SEQ.  It is a small village with a handful of stores.  One minute walk from the bus stop is a model train shop.  You wonder why it is there.  The owner is also a woodworker, but the model train sets on the wall and a working trainset attract a large number of enthusiasts.  Not quite like building a train in the basement, though.

Take the daytime Gympielander to Cooran.  There is time to have lunch at Cybils on King bistro, wander down the road to the model train place, then catch the train on its return journey to Brisbane.
