Or catch the 467 to Oxley station and catch the rail (around 15 mins travel from the carpark to Oxley).

Local residents too are indeed bemused by the location and size and the reasons behind this park and ride....

ozbob

Oh dear Mozz, I went down to the Jindalee park n' ride.  I thought first day of the Ekka, there would be lot of happy users ...

WRONG!  One vehicle in the park n' ride ...    I don't know whether to laugh or cry ...   :-r or  :'(   :o

Anyway some happy snaps  ....  amazing really ...  time of photographs around 9.20am.

Not a huge surprise.  It still only has a half hourly off peak service and even the peak service isn't particularly good.

ozbob

This cost $3.5M which equals around $51,000 per car park ....

For $50 000 you can get a new BMW or Alfa Romeo, and it would have 3x more capacity as well!

I can see the logic of building park and ride, but without decent services, it is a bit like building a train station and then running no trains!!

That's what the Richlands/Springfield extension is all about. Hundreds of millions, half hourly trains.

Transport facility open to bus users

COMMUTERS will now be able to park their car and utilise public transport with the opening of the $3.25 million park n' ride facility at Jindalee.

The 69-bay carpark, located on the corner of Sinnamon Rd, Burrendah Rd and Kooringal Dr, is the latest park n' ride project in TransLink's roll out of public transport facilities across Brisbane.

Member for Mt Ommaney Tarnya Smith said the benefit of the service outweighed the costs to deliver the project.

"Now that we have the park n' ride at Jindalee I hope it will encourage commuters, particularly those heading to the Brisbane CBD, to park their car and transfer to a nearby bus to complete their journey," she said.

"There is now easier access and more incentive for commuters to get back on public transport at Jindalee."

Routes servicing the park n' ride include 450 (Riverhills/Mt Ommaney to City), 453 (Mt Ommaney to City), P456 (Mt Ommaney to City), P457 (Riverhills to City) and P458 (Mt Ommaney to City).

This is what transport planning has become in this city. Large, high cost, high concrete, high lead time, low utility monuments that SYMBOLISE improvement without actual improvement. The bus services in the area remain rubbish.

Fix the buses then Park and Ride will make sense!

BUZing the 453 would just entrench a mediocre route too.

Maybe we should try my two routes for the area suggestion again?

Gazza

I passed that route diagram on to the current member (And the opposition) back at the Election. At the same time I brought up the P461, and city stop locations...Seems they've decided to run with that, so hopefully this suggestion gets up too  :-c

In any case, there's a community meeting of the local progress association she's attending too coming up, might bring it up again.

Mozz

I understand from Jindalee locals, that the car that uses the carpark is the same one each day.

david

I simply find it amazing that the 467 to Oxley station isn't even given a mention in all of their advertising.

From my understanding, the whole point of the Jindalee Park and Ride was to provide relief from the parking chaos at Darra and Oxley stations. Hence why the 467 was extended to Mt Ommaney earlier this year (they had expected the Park and Ride to open by then, but of course, the delays set in).

Gazza

Hate that extension, just duplicates other routes.

The service kms should have been spent making the route more frequent, so its actually a decent frequency, eliminating the preference to park and ride.

I don't remember that.  Terminating at the P&R seems reasonable - slightly further than it used to go.

Gazza

I think that would be a good compromise too.

Had a look today at 9.40am.  Three vehicles parked ...

Come on now Bob, no need to be so negative. Think of it this way: Thats a 200% increase in just 1 week!  :hg

Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

mufreight

Asa a comparison Richlands was better than 2/3 full on the first day and parked out within the first fortnight of it having been opened.  Slight difference in uptake.   :-t

See mu, that's only a growth of 50% over a fortnight. Clearly 200% in 1 week is much better....

The objective analysis is that for the first week 1.5% of the parking spaces was used.

Second week 4.4%.

Yeah, real good investment ...

Contrast that to Richlands week one, day one 66%  day three 100% ....
