MUSEUM, built in 1926 under the southern end of Hyde Park, will be the latest CityRail station made accessible to wheelchairs and prams.

The upgrade is one of several in the city in coming months. Circular Quay and Martin Place will get a facelift, and there will be construction of a pedestrian tunnel between Wynyard and Barangaroo.

The Transport Minister, Gladys Berejiklian, said Museum, the 24th busiest station on the CityRail network, would retain its heritage features but new lifts, ramps, ticket gates and accessible toilets were needed. The station will be the last in the City Circle to become wheelchair accessible.

The upgrade is part of a $770 million Transport Access Program, the effects of which are slowly spreading across the train system. Tenders have recently been issued for the design of multi-storey car parks at Lindfield, Sutherland, Gordon and Canley Vale.
