They are having a big sook because their expectations are unreasonable.  No way can you expect that every point in Sydney can or indeed should be within 400m of high frequency transit.

I would like to see a map - I wish papers were more thorough rather than being so light on critical detail. Where is the map?

A similar excercise with CFN mapping by transitmaps.etc blog shows where the gaps in Brisbane are - Outer East (Wynnum Road), around Doomben, Northwest, Centenary, and Bulimba.

And I agree that a lot has to be said about bus connections. It is infuriating to only have the option of city <---> home in a straight line and not be able to go around the city. Indeed, usage would be much higher if the extra degrees of freedom afforded by connections were added to the network.

Ticketing in Sydney is an international disgrace.

International?  As hard as it may be to imagine, there are worse systems, e.g. Auckland.

Looking at their map, I can tell you that I have lived in one of their "black spot" areas and considered that I had excellent public transport at least to the city.  It's hard to take this article too seriously.

Not all that accurately, being a schematic with some of the distortions being done for efficiency of space. The gaps would leap out from a scale map, or at least a schematic with the underserved corridors shown "greyed out".

Which, of course, is set to change over the next four years. Look out SEQ, you're gonna get beaten in arm-wrestling by a toddler!

I wouldn't be surprised if Adelaide goes ahead of SEQ regarding public transport in a few years.  It took about 7 years for all the network to be electrified in SEQ too.

Regarding fares, if Auckland does indeed successfully implement a decent fare system, I would say that Wellington will do so also, then I'm scratching my head as to what city in the OECD is behind Sydney.  There might be an example in the US, I'd suggest.  Auckland and Adelaide both have a long way to go to reach Sydney's patronage levels.  Wellington less of a distance, but it's still significant.

The gap at centenary isn't really obvious, due to the 444 and 412 being fairly close on the map.

That was to fit the page dimensions. Like I said, efficient use of space.
