More Schoolies buses on the Gold Coast

TransLink is running extra late night buses on the Gold Coast during Schoolies Week celebrations.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said public transport was the safest and most affordable option for teens joining the Schoolies celebrations on the Gold Coast.

"Additional buses will service Gold Coast night destinations across the week to cater for the thousands of extra customers expected," Mr Emerson said.

"Additional buses will run on route 700 about every 15 minutes on the Gold Coast Highway between Surfers Paradise and Burleigh Heads from 1am to 4am, before reverting back to their normal 30-minute frequency after 4am."

The southbound services will run from Surfers Paradise to Burleigh Heads (via the Gold Coast Highway), stopping at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Bel Air on Broadbeach, Nobby Beach Shopping Centre and Christine Avenue.

The northbound buses will run from Palm Beach to Surfers Paradise (via Cavill Avenue), stopping at Burleigh Heads, Christine Avenue, Nobby Beach Shopping Centre, Bel Air on Broadbeach and the Gold Coast Convention Centre.

"Schoolies should use the journey planner on the TransLink website to help plan their transport to and from Schoolies activities," Mr Emerson said.

"Surfside Buslines will deliver these additional services from Friday, November 16 to Friday, November 23."

TransLink Senior Network Officers, as well as uniformed and plain-clothed police, will regularly patrol buses on the Gold Coast during Schoolies.

Private security guards will also operate roving patrols and all Surfside Bus Lines buses have CCTV coverage and back-to-base radio monitoring.
