It would seem that the need for an upgrade of the rail infrastructure through the CBD is not being taken seriously by a government which while promising much delivers as little as possible unless someone else pays for it.
At the present time the section line over the Merivale Street bridge and through the CBD from South Brisbane to Bowen Hills is approaching saturation.  When it reaches its limits there will not be sufficent train paths throug the CBD to provide services for all lines bearing in mind the additional services that will be required to meet the increasing commuter demand on existing lines and those to service the Springfiels line.
The infrastructure should be being constructed now so as to meet this ever increasing demand. one of the tunneling machines that has been used on the Clem 7 road tunnel could on the completion of that project be relocated to commence the construction of the underground link from Fairfield/Dutton Park to the Exhibition loop.
It is unfortunate that it would seem that the Federal funding for the inner city upgrade will not be forthcoming for this esentiol infrastructure project if Brisbane is not to enter into terminal gridlock with the inability to provide the services that commuters need.
Road transport can delay this need for a few years but such rail link infrastructure as this underground link is now needed as a matter of urgency
