Thought this would be an interesting topic, but for Brisbanes Level Crossings, what would be the most practical way to do each?

Here are some thoughts of mine so far...

These overpasses destroy significant land holdings around the level crossing just pushing development further out.  There has to be better options. Lowering the rail line? Install better gates, etc.

I personally don't think traffic flow is a good reason to build overpasses.  Safety yes but there are other options

It does cost more doing that, and it reduces the performance of the rail line due to the grades.

What about buses that have to cross the tracks?

Undoubtably, but if it means we can intensify development around rail stations (aka TOD's or Mixed Use Commercial Centres) and thus make the surrounding development moe walkable with better urban design is that not a better outcome?

Provide more cycleways/storage areas/lockers. Provide better public walkway with increased lighting. Provide better bus services/connections. Utilise other nearby stations. There are ways around it. Every station doesn't have to be a tod or commercial centre or what ever gets people building multistory buildings next to the station. SOme areas are better suited for that. Others aren't suited for it at all.

I don't think Runcorn Station or the nearby Bonemill St ones are worth doing because the line should eventually be realigned and tunnelled to follow Beenleigh Rd (leaving only Fruitgrove and Coopers Plains and a new station at Mains Road/Pinelands).  Very long term, but there is no point wasting money on it when there are bigger fish to fry elsewhere.

On the Beenleigh line the ones worth doing are, in order of importance:

1. Boundary Road, Coopers Plains.  This should be the next one done anywhere in the system.
2. Warrigal Road, Runcorn.
3. Beenleigh Road, Kuraby, but far less important than the others.

Nathan & Bonemill are minor roads, and there is little justification for doing them in my opinion.

Of those, only Boundary Road and Warrigal Road are, in my opinion, urgent.  Boundary road should be done on the basis of the confusing mix of Lx and traff
