Employers turn their backs on young recruits

Been some anecdotal comments to that effect.  Lack of reliable commuting certainty can make it harder to secure employment in the areas other than the immediate SC area, eg. Brisbane CBD.

Be interested to see what the Sunshine Coast folk think ..

Poor public transport links and consequent lack of mobility are definitely a contributing factor to youth unemployment, but I'd say there's far more to the problem than just a deficit of public transport.

Of course a multiplicity, but ratsh%t PT doesn't help ..

Same thing for the disadvantaged area at Carole Park. Horrible hourly bus route, and no station planned for Ellen Grove.

A complete mess of a bus network, such as a disfractured trunk network (600, 610, 616, 620 and 626/627), as well as a limited CFN - Core Frequent Network  (600 and the combined 626/627 frequency between Tewantin and Noosa) doesn't help either.

Some routes on the SC bus network (602,622 and 631) that are running hourly (or less due to being rail feeders) need to be upped to 30 mins, along with the remaining trunk routes outside of the 600 being upped to every 15 minutes.  I always re-iterated that the 631 should be converted to a local route, whilst the 630 takes over the Nambour-Noosa link duties.

See 600, and combine the 626/627 between Noosa and Tewantin, and there's the 'current' CFN  :hg

Plenty of room for improvement (which I can't see under the Newman government anytime soon, would be happy if a miracle happens and he proves me wrong).  610, 616, 620 are "half-hourly" trunk routes linking major towns (University, Noosa, Nambour, etc) which should be upped.  620 to/from Noosa at various times of the day go out with fully seated loads, holidays with standing loads.

Do we have a map of the SC CFN?

Yes, look carefully between the letters SC and CFN, it's right there ...  :-r

If the LNP members on the Sunny Coast were in Opposition still, by now they would have been calling media conferences and firing off press releases stating that "Labor has failed the youth of the Sunshine Coast by not providing them jobs or public transport access to jobs ..... shame .... only the LNP can put Queensland back on track.... when in government we will move quickly to address this problem... blah....blah."

Not a word now they are in government.

I think there's quite a bit more to this than just a lack of transport.  I've heard quite a few of my friends who have done university have had difficulty in getting jobs out of uni as they haven't taken the initiative and looked for work in the area that they want to work in before they graduate.  Equally, other friends I have who have been going through the employment agencies state that they get a lack of support from the agencies and the way with it set up it makes it difficult for them to seek education while they are job seeking due to the funding arrangements.

Bit difficult to explain in a post, but think of it as a merry-go-round that doesn't end until one or the other does something about it.

Myself, I'm going into an industry with volatile employment, where at least the majority of employment is contract based and it's never guaranteed that you will get a new job when that contract ends.  Even those with heaps of experience (which for my industry actually counts more than qualifications), tend to have difficulty in finding work and end up having to work multiple jobs and have their ear close to the ground to make sure that they keep the income flowing.

For me due to this industry, I'm probably going to seek post grad as a fall back to at least keep some sort of money coming in....if I can get work that is, and nor will it be in this state, unfortunately.
