Always wondered why when QR citytrain went electric, they didn't go gradually to SG, via dual gauge, as most if not all track has been refurbished.
Was this because,

1/ It's what we've always had, therefore we can't/won't change.
2/ It will cost too much, as per the original decision to use narrow gauge.

Wouldn't there be a payback over time for standardised equipment purchases in future.

Also,

Why, when the Gateway southside was planned, there wasn't allowance for running rail down the side or center of the alignment, giving the option of freight rail to join the Gateway between Murrarrie and Wynnum Rd, to continue to Logan Motorway to Gailes/ Darra and connect to the Ipswich line to bypass the freight route via Norman Park/Morningside, to the POB.

Why weren't the platform heights realigned with the introduction of the new electric trains.

Probably all to do with $$$$$$$$$. Sigh !

Cost would have been just insane period. All the corridors would have to be widened, some areas would have speed reductions because of the tight curves, track realignment, all sleepers replaced/upgraded, tunnels widened, track upgraded for extra weight, all points replaced, drainage modified, stations modified, trackside equipment moved, signaling upgraded, mtce failities modified - Mayne/Redbank along with some outer depots (back then locos came to Brisbane from up north to use facilities at Mayne), rollingstock modifications, stabling modifications and the list literally goes on and on.
