SUNSHINE Coast rail commuters are facing lengthy delays this morning due to a track fault.

Brisbanetimes.com.au reports that normal train services on the Caboolture and Sunshine Coast rail lines resumed about 8am after services were suspended due to an earlier track fault at Morayfield.

However, Translink has warned commuters of residual delays of up to 50 minutes for some services.

Buses were transferring passengers between Burpengary and Petrie, but the shuttle services are due to end by 8.30am.

Commuter advocate Jeff Addison told the Sunshine Coast Daily this morning that it was the 6.14 train from Nambour to Brisbane which was caught up in the commuter chaos.

Commuters had been at Morayfield for 30mins since 7.15am.

"We were told it was due to an electric fault at Petrie and track fault at Morayfield,'' Mr Addison said.

"Passengers were at first told they would have to catch the bus - so they jumped off the train.

"They were then told to get back on and then a short time later a suggestion was made over the intercom that it might be better for those who could to drive the rest of the journey.''

Mr Addison said the mood on the train was one of absolute frustration.

Meanwhile, Translink has announced new cuts to bus services on the Sunshine Coast.

From 23 June 2012, the 607 (Caloundra to University via Parrearra) and 636 (Nambour to University via Buderim) will not operate services after 9pm from University of Sunshine Coast (USC).

The University and TransLink offered an after 9pm service on the 607 and the 636 as a trial in semester 1, 2012.

However, due to low patronage these services will no longer be operating.
