The "Beattie burger" - the common name for the Queensland Government logo - is slowly being phased out, the Premier's Department has confirmed.

However it is set to stay on top of the Executive Building in George Street.

Talk that the logo, introduced in 2000 as Queensland Government's corporate logo, was being replaced has circulated for several days.

Public servants refer to it as the "Beattie burger" because the relaxed style of the logo looks like a hamburger with several chips or french fries sitting beside it.

It was adopted by then premier Peter Beattie's administration in April 2000.
A spokeswoman for Premier Campbell Newman said last night government departments had been told they could choose whether to use the government crest or the logo.

"Departments have been advised that they can choose to use either the Crest or the Queensland Government logo," the spokeswoman said.

"There are no plans to change the logo on the roof of the Executive Building."

However brisbanetimes.com.au has been told government marketing areas have been told to use Queensland's official coat of arms - the Queensland crest - on correspondence.

brisbane times.com.au has been told that a new "correspondence template" has been issued to all government marketing areas, encouraging them to no longer use the "Beattie burger."

The "Beattie burger" logo was designed by architect Michael Bryce, the husband of Australia's Governor General Quentin Bryce.

They did exactly the same thing in WA when the Liberals (incomprehensibly) won government in 2008.

NSW interestingly happened the other way - the ALP standardised everything on the stylised waratah logo which has now been continued by Barry.

They need to get a new one - maltese cross I suggest. The current logo looks very unflattering - I call it the 'egg and sperm' logo.

Glad to see it go. Always made me think of worms feasting on a mouldy orange.

This is just Newman playing politics. Typical!

He broke his promise of not changing for the sake of change. I know of one department that changed the logo already.

The new logo is actually used in the past.
