What do you think about the Cleveland Solution  :-c

Full Disclosure: I fully expect zero support for the Cleveland Solution and I personally think it is a garbage proposal.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

Let's make history and make it the first UNANIMOUS RAILBOT POLL ever!

Extremely optimistic price tag.
Level crossings that would be closed to traffic for 50% of peak period.
Not much existing R&D on cape gauge light rail vehicles.
Would not add enough capacity for addition of Flagstone Line.

Doh!

You get what you pay for. You buy cheap - you get cheap. Cheap means usually it will not last (and will soon become redundant) or is not up to the task being asked of it. The rail line expansions will occur off the Beenleigh / Gold Coast Line. A large budget project can usually be pruned back to save money but the Cleveland "Solution" is certainly NOT a solution.

The State Government has a working party of external expert independent consultants assessing the options but, is in effect, telling them that the State Government does NOT want them to come up with the CRR as their preferred option.

The people of Brisbane have said they would like to see the Riverside Expressway demolished (though what they would replace it with, I don't know) as it is an eyesore. What will Brisbaneites think of an elevated rail line added to the structural delights of the Riverside Expressway? It is then going into a tunnel at Herschel Street for heaven's sake!!! Campbell Newman wants to build Government buildings over the air space perhaps he thinks the rail line will be enclosed underneath those buildings too - a Gardens Point Station perhaps?

CRR was meant to not only give a major alternative route through the city but it was to provide stations at Wooloongabba and Albert Street to better serve the city and inner city areas expected to have a large residential boost.

Could the CRR start itsd underground journey from Dutton Park thus reducing the tunneling distance and saving money. BTW part of this whole project was the provision of electric car storage sidings at Clapham. A badly needed facility.

WTN

It's probably not exactly cheap given the plan uses light rail instead of existing heavy rail. There are new vehicles, a new depot, new expertise, modifications to the existing corridor (overhead, platforms, etc) and trying to squeeze tracks next to the freeway near Vulture St. More concrete spaghetti anyone?

I've heard that manure is very cheap and going at a discount price at the moment LOL.

Pay peanuts, get monkeys...

Oh yeah, and it might not even be that cheap! I cop a lot of flak on this forum for 'foam' but I have to say, go look at nonsense ideas like Maroon CityGlider, P88, buses in place of GC LRT or Cleveland (non-) solutions that actually have a real chance of being done with real money in the real world and you can see where the foam really is coming from!

This is fast shaping up to be like Brisbane's version of the Sydney metro debacle... I wonder if they are going to do the planning on the back of a napkin...
