I have a mate who lives in East Brisbane and these are his usual bus routes.  He went out last night in the Valley and when we went to take the bus home found an almost 2 hour wait (just missed the 6:35pm bus).

The timetable for the day is http://jp.translink.com.au/travel-information/network-information/stop-to-stop/000206/001113/2012-06-11

Is there a need for improved frequency on these routes, especially given the proximity to the CBD and the medium-density housing in East Brisbane.

Where he live is south of Stanley St, bit far for the CityCat but is the 200 stop on Deshon St sufficient to cover this area?

Hmm, a 220 left QSBS at 8:10pm.  I've previously bagged the 214/215/220 for running 2km+ without a stop when it isn't that busy and for its city stop location.

Besides that, I think that:
-184 should be canned.
-210 should run to Carindale rather than Cannon Hill
-212 should run to Cannon Hill and Metroplex
-revised 210 should be a BUZ.

Ouch! That's one big gap, Achiruel, for an inner-city suburb quite early on a Sunday evening!

Still, there are other viable alternatives ... they just require a bit more walking. Here's some of them I can think of:

  • 230/235 to Wellington St - approx. 360 metres away from Rosslyn St
  • 196 to Sydney St then CityCat to Mowbray Park - approx. 1.1km away from Vulture & Rosslyn
  • Any bus to Woolloongabba busway station - approx. 1.0km away from Vulture & Rosslyn
  • 475 to Main St Kangaroo Point - approx. 880 m away from Vulture & Rosslyn
Still, transport from the Valley to the eastern suburbs is generally appalling. You have this marvellous little bit of road infrastructure called the Story Bridge that can be used to give a more direct path to the city from suburbs like East Brisbane, relieve congestion at the Cultural Centre, improve access to the Valley, and how many buses use the Story Bridge? A massive 4 per hour off-peak (475/476, 227, 232). What a waste.

Convert 215 to a local service (maybe just keep the 213 route number).
220 via Wynnum Road to Cannon Hill and Tingalpa, then review the alignment between there and Wynnum/Manly.
Keep the 214 as a full time service to Cannon Hill and possibly BUZ.

Agree with Simon's other thoughts on the 184/185/210/212.

What's the reason behind canning 184?  Better frequency for the 185?  Why can the 184 and not the 185?  As I see it the 185 is more eligible for canning as it duplicates the 180 BUZ for the southern end of its route.

South of Broadwater Rd the 185 goes a different way which is not that near the 180.  I'd straighten the bit of the 185 between Wecker Rd and Broadwater Rd to just run down Ham Rd.  That way you are widening the coverage.

184's route south of Wecker Rd is completely covered near enough by the 174 and 175.

Yeah...problem as is we all know here too well, routes are never cut, new ones are just made.

200 is a classic example.  Rather than rerouting it along the EB, BT/TL decided to make 222 a BUZ instead.
