So many Ferny Grove Line stations may end up with a better daytime off-peak service (15 mins gaps) than peak service (up to 23min gaps)?

Might be ironed out in phase 200 maybe?  :hg

Would the Ferny Grove line support DOO? Many of the stations are rebuilt and new.

Only rebuilt/new stations are Oxford Park, Groverly and Ferny Grove. Windsor - Mitchy are all low level platforms as is Keperra.

Next problem is stations on curves/curved platforms, which will require more money spent on external CCTV and so forth.

Curved platforms include:
Windsor Down (station building blocks full view of the platform from the driving cab)
Wilston Up and Down (Down, same problem as above, but not as bad... Could possibly get away with it; Up, drivers cab is on the outer curve, can only see first car, first 2 at most)
Newmarket Up (Footbridge in the way, might be able to get away with it)
Alderly Up and Down (Down, buildings/shelters block view from front cab; Up can't see the rear 2 or so cars)
Enoggera Up (should be able to get away with it, not much of a curve)
Gaythorne Up and Down (severe curve each way, can't see the whole train either way)
Mitchelton Down (station building in the way)
Oxford Park Up and Down (Down is on the outside curve; Up - buildings etc. in the way to see the whole train)
Groverly Up and Down (Down is Ok, Up the driver is on the outside curve and can't see the train)
Keperra Up (not too bad, should be able to get away with it).

A vast majority of the stations would need work done for DOO on Ferny Grove line. Like I said in the other thread, I think the Gold Coast/Airport corridor would be the easiest, least expensive corridor to have DOO first/as a trial and would require the least amount of modifications and extra staff.

Edit: As RTT said in the other thread too, if Doomben became a shuttle from Roma Street, it should be able to be converted to DOO reasonably easily, although may require platform modifications for wheelchairs to board/exit without having the driver help (which would cause significant delays).
All opinions stated are my own and do not reflect those held by my employer.

What is the union position on DOO?

Against would be the obvious response or is there room to move.

To be quite honest, your guess is as good as mine.. I would agree with your suggestion that they would be against, not sure whether there would be room to move or not (maybe if QR said all guards would be trained as driver if they were willing to be and no forced redundancies they may sway a bit?).

Running the network properly is not likely to result in fewer staff I think - just slightly fewer train crew and more station staffing roles (particularly at terminating stations - it seems to take way too long to turn trains around, even taking into account the limitations of the timetable).

Curved platforms are not an impediment to DOO, you just need extra CCTV cameras. Check out Bank on London's Central Line, and Bastille on Paris Line 1 (the latter now just converted to driverless!).

..and please, I hope no one starts the "but we have sunshine" argument.

Agree entirely. Main point of my post, though, was that the FYG line would require more upgrades (read more $$) than some of the others to get DOO running.

Agree, curved not an issue. But it means more upfront costs and stuffing around to get DOO. With straight and very slightly curved, the big mirrors used in Mel seem to work (or did).

Exactly, which is why I suggested GC-AP corridor would be one of the easiest to go DOO, Doomben too (esp if they're mostly 3-car shuttles to Roma Street).
