Advertisements by QR regarding courtesy

Hello All,

I saw an advertisement (in cartoon drawing format) in the mX newspaper yesterday afternoon promoting courtesy and etiquette on services.
It was a 'hand drawing' of John standing up for Mary who had a leg in a cast and John was standing by the priority seating area.

Funny thing was that there were 2 seats there anyway and he could have stayed put.

The gist of the ad is of course very good.
This issue has been raised previously in our CRG meeting about 6 months ago.
We also requested announcements to the same effect but to date have never heard one.

That's one thing I sincerely hope does not get adopted. There are already a plethora of announcements that are supposed to be done throughout the journies, but it is just becoming way too much. Too many announcements gets very annoying very quickly.

Who makes the announcements, the driver or the guard ?
I understand that announcements can get annoying to passengers if constantly repeated - but once near the start of a journey is ok.
Everything in moderation is the key.

Some trains may go to the other platforms than their normal ones (wrong road) for operation reasons (eg a breakdown blocking a track).  Perhaps then, the "platform on the left/right" should be said by the guards.

I disagree, you see people at the wrong door all the time. I do however agree all announcements should be as minimized as possible.

Most other places aren't a symettrical tube with no indication of which door will be open and which is locked. How is a blind person meant to work it out, other than by trial and error?

Especially when some of the EMUs don't even have a beeping noise at the doors once they've been released.

QUEENSLAND Rail's online train etiquette campaign has become the butt of internet jokes with parodies of the "polite" posters going viral.

In a twist similar to that experienced by the notorious "Qantas luxury" Twitter competition, commuters have embraced the invitation to "personalise the etiquette posters" and post them on social media sites.

Many have taken the opportunity to highlight some of QR's failings.

One banner takes a dig at Premier Campbell Newman.

"Jim waited five years for a train. But it never came. Because Campbell spent all the money on tunnels."

Some of the posters have attracted more than 600,000 views on Twitter.

The posters have even caught the attention of New York City bloggers who have pronounced the "Jim sits on the train, his feet are on the floor" message the "most polite train etiquette poster ever".

"If that was in the NYC subway, I don't even want to imagine what substances would be clinging and dripping from it," noted the blogger.

Although Queensland Rail is aware of the fun being had at its expense, a spokesman said it was pleased the campaign had created so much interest and discussion.

"The etiquette campaign has encouraged customers to be aware of their own behaviour and think about what is socially acceptable behaviour while on the City network," he said.

"Since its launch in September 2011, our campaign has sparked a lot of interesting discussion on train etiquette faux pas."
