A PETITION calling for a CityCat terminal for Brisbane's Kangaroo Point has failed to gain support from City Hall.

About 423 people signed the petition, which came before council's Public and Active Transport committee on Tuesday morning.

It follows a push by Labor for a CityCat terminal to service the growing area.

The party had promised to upgrade a ferry stop to incorporate the faster river transport if elected but failed to gain a majority at the April 28 council poll.

Residents says a CityCat is needed as the ferry service is too slow.

Lord Mayor Cr Graham Quirk, however, made it clear providing a CityCat for Kangaroo Point was not one of his priorities.

In a report before the Public and Active Transport committee this morning, council officers recommended against the proposal, with ferries servicing the area every 12 to 13 minutes considered adequate.

The committee voted to follow the council officer's recommendation.

The petition is expected to be formally rejected at a full council meeting next Tuesday.
