Still with the obsession with free parking for personal motorised transport.

Scooters are ok though?

Not as perfect as a bike, but much better than a car.

Don't know about that.  What are the accident stats for scooters?

Brisbanetimes --> Smith looks to old rival for upgrade funding

Quote
...
Mayoral candidate Ray Smith said he would contribute $500 million of Labor's $800 million local roads program towards improvements at rail crossings at Bald Hills (Telegraph Road); Coopers Plains (Boundary Road), Geebung (Newman Road); Alderley (South Pine Road) and Coorparoo (Cavendish Road).

Mr Smith defended his approach this morning, saying Premier Campbell Newman - who Mr Smith had expected to face in the mayoral election when he was endorsed as Labor's candidate - had already promised to upgrade two rail level crossings during the state election.

I'd look at a proper green bridge - bus/cycling/pedestrian.

There are 2 locations possible for this - West End to Toowong just outside Land Street. This would allow cyclists to flow from West to East without going to the CBD. It will also complete the section of "the grid" (look at the roads in Google Maps) which would allow buses to do a cross-town flow from Indooroopilly to Carindale via Wooloongabba without going through the CBD. This would be an important link in the cross-town network.

The second location I'd think about is New Farm to Hawthorne near that monohull ferry (can't remember the name). That would allow the ferry to be removed and buses to cross the river into Bulimba without having to go via the Story Bridge or Wooloongabba.

You'll struggle to do that anywhere except the bus turnaround at Teneriffe due to the landholdings (and it just got harder with the new terminal going in).

???

Oh, if you are talking about Norman Park - I would say this is possible (if you resume the entire reserve on the southern side of the river), but not necessarily a good move.  It just takes more buses out of East Brisbane.  Story Bridge route is fine, surely?

The Land St one would have to come out at say Victoria Street on the West End side.  I like this idea a lot more.

If there is one PT issue which would be a council issue, it is bringing back the bus lanes on Coro as promised, even if inbound only!

Western Freeway buses can still access them via Sylvan Rd.

ABC website says that the LNP will be returned, and extend their lead.

ozbob

Yes, seems the ALP will end up with 7 councillors, compared to 10 in the previous BCC council.

Cr Quirk returned as LM of course.

Surprisingly, Nicole Johnstone is going to be returned.  Hopefully not for opposing a bus depot without identifying an alternative site (to my knowledge).
