Ideas for Melbourne: Transport and Movement

--> http://wheelercentre.com/videos/video/ideas-for-melbourne-transport-and-movement/

QuotePlanes, trains, automobiles and – latterly – cycling are a perennial Melbourne bone of contention. Is there room on the roads for everyone, or are we heading for traffic armageddon? Paul Mees, Meredith Sussex and Daniel Bowen explore the ideas, the funding, the political and class issues – and, of course, the modes – of getting around Melbourne's growing metropolis.

Interesting discussion, even if preaching to the converted to a degree.  Well worth watching.

Good points made about using the existing infrastructure properly, and frequency of course. Bus in Melbourne has the Brisbane suburban bus disease as well, routes to everywhere and betwixt, incomprehensible and extremely inefficient.  I disagree with the point about fixing it, too hard.  You break it down and start.

Melbourne's bus network is actually not that bad from a design point of view in large part.

What they don't have is integration with rail and tram and good frequencies, except in limited applications (Smartbus, the 401 and 601 uni shuttles, the 732 link between Vermont South 75 tram terminus and Knox City etc).
