COMMUTERS will be able to shop on the hop when Woolies launches a virtual supermarket at Flinders Street station this morning.

The first cyber grocery store was unveiled yesterday at Sydney's Town Hall station and will eventually be followed by enough of them to reach 90 per cent of the Australian population by postcode.

Ordinary walls at bus and tram stops, train stations and even shopping centres will host the virtual shelves "stocking" 120 of Woolworths' most popular items.

Commuters will be able to choose their groceries, pay and then have the items delivered to their home or work. All with the simple click of a button on their smart phone.

The minimum cost will be $30 and the maximum delivery fee will be $13.

Woolworths innovation manager Has Fakira said Australians could shave up to two hours a week off their shopping trips by ordering their groceries while waiting for their public transport.

The service relies on staff physically picking items from a nearby store.

Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...
