Indeed, over 3 years ago! in 2009.
What is the report titled again, please remind me?  *irony*

Oh yes, Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program 2010–11 to 2013–14

Since when is 2009 included, or is MeTRIP something continuing at the present?

lol, the wording is fascinating.  It is a bit like me telling people that I have 'begun the process towards developing long-term objectives that will achieve height-proportionate weight balance.'  Am I losing weight?  No.  I am just thinking about the plan that will get me to the point of doing so.

Thus the state government pledges to:

Develop a long-term transport and road network to support the region.  (Taking our time, maybe 2031)

Continue the study on the Nambour Connection Road to identify future transport requirements and priorities.

Continue studies of the road network to identify future transport needs and priorities in Queensland's fastest-growing region.

Continue the strategic planning and corridor preservation for the multi-modal transport corridor from Caloundra Road to the Sunshine Motorway, including a rigorous assessment of the section between Creekside Boulevard and the Mooloolah River Interchange to determine the best alignment.

(Yep, out there every day havin' a look, like Pa Kettle, maybe do something one day.)

What does this mean?:

"Continue to maintain the commitment to manage the road network in a manner that optimises environmental outcomes for natural, human and built environments."

This is an old document too, it talks about duplicating the Bruce Highway between Yandina and Cooroy.  That's been done for yonks.

They started it, and I belive it is still being updated. The site Ozbob linked to was last updated 9 June 2012. I think things like this are useful.

Hang on a minute.  This is a document which was prepared under the last government.  Why is it being linked to now?

Because TMR recirculated it yesterday.  Was updated by them June 9.

It has been updated as I'm pretty sure last time I saw this document, they had the FG Mayne connection thing in it, but it wasn't a "we'll build it" it was an investigation.

The fact that we are reverting to an updated older document .... does this mean that Conning SEQ 2031 has been quietly killed off and buried?

Golliwog

No idea, but I thought Connecting SEQ was more of a "this is what we'd like to have" type document, whereas this is an actual "this is what we're doing" document for the next few years.

So was looking through this today and found a few projects I didn't know about, with funding approved for this year (for some it is unclear if this is just for planning or actual construction or both). Not overly clear what some of them relate to, but could be something to look into? This has been made by the current government and isn't a hanger-on from the previous one as there are a few projects in there that I know were promises made by the LNP at the election.

201/U28A/2 - Cultural Center $10 million this financial year for bus priority works.
201/U28A/1 - 0-6.00km $20 million this financial year to construct a busway, $15.820 million next financial year as well.
201/U28A/3 - Various locations on the SE Busway for bus priority measure, $5.700 million this financial year.

201/U29A/200 - Queen Street Busway Station $6.868 million for bus priority works

201/U30/1 - Northern Busway $206 000 for various miscellaneous works.
201/U30/4 - Northern Busway Windsor - Kedron $25.404 million in 2014/15 to 2015/16 to construct busway
201/U30/5 - Northern Busway Fitzgibbon - Bracken Ridge $3 million for bus priority works

201/U31/4 - Eastern Busway Buranda to Coorparoo $17.451 million this financial year to construct busway, with another $38.513 million somewhere in the future.

AR11930 - Mayne - Ferny Grove connection $2 million this financial year to construct rail line, $18 million next fin year as well.

AR11932 - Rail capacity upgrades, all suburban lines $55 million this financial year and $35 million in the following to construct/upgrade platforms

B01727 - Corinda - Darra: Third Track $4.864 million this financial year to construct additional track and station upgrade

B02621 - Albion Land Bridge $1 million this financial year and $18.2 million in the following to construct a rail over bridge at Albion station

There were a few other PT projects but those were obvious (like the Springfield line, FG-Keperra duplication) what they were so I saw no need to copy in here for people to have a look at. Some of the above are semi clear what they're for, (Eg: Mayne-FG connection) and I've just included them to show they're being funded, but some I'm curious about like the top 3 on the SE busway, or what the money for the Corinda - Darra upgrade is being spent on these days?

So does anyone have an idea about what some of these projects are?

This has me more than a little intrigued.  Might be to sort out the layout at Corinda enable eventual electrification of UP sub and straight through running on that line. That way trains can stick on the subs to / ex Springfield and avoid the crossings conflicts etc.  But only a wild guess.  Quantum not enough for Oxley 4th platform.

I thought that was interesting too. Would it be enough if the money for the 4th Oxley platform came from

I wonder how many road projoects would become unnecessary if public transport were free ?

This is a consideration that TMR is incapable of. The idea that PT can postpone or eliminate expensive road projects is totally foreign to the bureaucracy. The silos are impregnable.

QuoteI wonder how many road projoects would become unnecessary if public transport were free ?

We have some evidence during the floods when PT was free and work was undisrupted in the northside of the city. Even in off peak times people were still driving.

We have some evidence with the busway, which is capable of carrying 7 lane equivalents of cars. The motorway next to it carries 4 lanes per direction. Upon opening we can expect 7 lanes - 4 lanes = negative 2; Therefore during the height of peak hour, the freeway should be empty --- not so, people STILL drive.

During peak times the system reaches close to capacity, and a free PT system would get it's highest use at this time. Without a pricing control, massive infrastructure upgrade would be required to handle peak load.

I don't think free PT during peak times is a solution. Off peak may be a different story.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.
