Mango Hill residents call for buses

The older parts of Mango Hill are lacking regular and sufficient bus services but Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk assures residents it will improve.

The only problem is public transport users may have to wait until 2016 when the Moreton Bay Rail Link is expected to be completed.

Ms Palaszczuk met with the Mango Hill Progress Association last week and promised more bus services would operate throughout Mango Hill streets once the rail line was running.

"This is a growing area and we want more services to accommodate those people," she said.

Ms Palaszczuk said the North Lakes bus interchange, to be built this year, would help locals commute to Brisbane but Mango Hill Progress Association president Laurence Christie feared it would go to waste without more frequent services from Mango Hill and surrounding suburbs.

He said if Mango Hill residents wanted to use the bus interchange service to travel to Brisbane, they would have to either drive their cars or walk, which was "extremely difficult" for older residents.

"We want to increase the level of usage of public transport in the area ... but we still see a lot of gaps (in the services)," he said.

Mango Hill Progress Association member George Mathieson said a bus route servicing the area was needed before the rail line and bus interchange are completed, "otherwise people find alternatives".

State Member for Murrumba Dean Wells said he was convinced parking spaces were not required at the bus interchange and urged locals to use public transport "100 per cent of the way".

"The bus interchange is for people changing from one bus service to another," Mr Wells said.

Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

Question- should this area have a park and ride facility.

Interesting to see the responses...

Why park and ride to then use a feeder bus?  Park and ride in this area should be at a train station.

I propose a bus route from kippa ring to petrie following the alignment.
"Where else but Queensland?"

Are there buses that currently do this? I'm not familiar with Hornibrook.

680 to Chermside. Stops at North Lakes then runs pretty much in a straight line to Petrie then along Gympie Road to Chermside.

Which part of Mango Hill are they talking about?  The last I saw there was a 681 and a 682 servicing that top pocket of Mango Hill and the newer estate on the southern half.

This service is massively under-provided, as is most of the servicing on Hornibrook's network (especially on Sundays).

My contact has indicated that Hornibrook has previously designed various networks involving minimum half-hourly 6am-9pm type routes, a 690 to meet every off-peak train at Sandgate and ramped up in the peak, and no loop services, which could have been achieved with the available fleet at the time.  TTA was not prepared to pay for it.
